Was just talking to a friend about Evan Turner and it somehow evolved into how we'd redo the draft? Here's what I got (note: I disregarded trades that'd happen later in the season):

1. Washington Wizards - John Wall

2. Philadelphia 76ers - Greg Monroe
I like his fit with this Sixers team even if he's not the most talented big in the draft

3. New Jersey Nets - Derrick Favors
I still think he's going to be a monster. Though I fear the Jazz might have to go through what Portland went through w/ Jermaine O'Neal.

4. Minnesota Timberwolves - DeMarcus Cousins
I know he's a bit of a head case, but how is it possible to turn down building a front court around Cousins-Love combo? Weak defenisvely, but that's a pretty tandem. Well, atleast they got Vlade 2.0

5. Sacramento Kings - Ed Davis
Not a logical pairing with Dalembert, but I like this kids skills & energy too much have him slide any further

6. Golden State Warriors - Paul George
Athleticism fits well into the way they play also love the d he's been showing against Rose. Hope/think he can develop an outside shot

7. Detroit Pistons - Evan Turner
Easily the toughest pick for me, cuz the teams just so, so, so terrible. He's got enough talent where he could be a rotation player right now, and he's also got the most upside, and that's something, right?

8. Los Angeles Clippers - Gordan Hayward
No brainer, right?

9. Utah Jazz - Landry Fields
Not the best player on the board by any means, but I think some of the better players on the board (Udoh, Patterson) don't fit at all on this team b/c their skillsets are too similar to players they already have.

10. Indiana Pacers - Epke Udoh
Again, this is kind of a fit thing - I like Patterson as a player much better, but w/ Hibbert on board I think you take the athletic freak in Udoh and hope he can become a poor man's Gerald Wallace.

What do you guys think?

Starting to question that Monroe pick a little, he doesn't neccessarily fit into their run-n-gun style but he definitely gives them an interesting piece for their half court offense.

Monroe is the third best big man at best, I don't see him going second.

Who'd you take at 2 then, Cousins or Favors?

Interesting exercise. Is need/fit is the main rationale for these picks?

Ya, that definitely was a big factor in how I did mine.

Inefficient or not, I think Jordan Crawford makes the top ten.  At the very least, I'd put him in Indiana ahead of Udoh.

Wes Johnson?

Also, with hindsight 20/20, Landry Fields might scratch into the top 10.

Edit: I see he's there. My reading comprehension is not so comprehensive ATM.

Favors, if only because Cousins has proven to be a knucklehead.

I don't see Doug Collins approving of a Demarcus Cousins pick.  They trade down if possible IMO for extra considerations then take whoever's available of Favors and George (they'd have a lot of Turner's minutes to fill).  If they don't trade down, I think they take Favors.  But Cousins is such a huge value there because of his considerably higher talent than anyone else available there, I think some team would really want to trade up for him.

collins would be stupid not to take demarcus at #2.  personality issues or not, it's clear the demarcus is going to be a very, very good player soon enough.  a taller, longer zach randolph at the very least.

I personally think you're right.  Funny, Zach Randolph is the exact player that I compare him to becoming like.  Is he really the type of player you want with the #2 overall pick?  Maybe, maybe not.  I'd be happier if I could swap picks with Minny and also acquire the rights to one swap of first round draft picks in the next 5 years (#1 protected).

Question:  Would Demarcus have fewer personality issues on a team like Philly with a few vets like Iggy and Brand and also a vet coach in Collins?  I still see Collins having no interest in him.

A 20-10 machine is certainly a player worth spending a #2 pick on, especially when nobody else in this draft class is as talented or is as much of a sure thing (other than John Wall).  Because of his size, DeMarcus can play center naturally and will probably be better defensively than Zach Randolph.  A center with Zach Randolph's offensive abilities and the size and length to play decent post defense sounds like a very formidable player to me.  Worth spending a #2 pick no matter what your current team make-up is.

1. Washington Wizards - John Wall
2. Philadelphia 76ers - DeMarcus Cousins (Doug Collins and Brand would have been able to guide this headcase, his talent is just too good to pass up on)
3. New Jersey Nets - Derrick Favors (trade bait, that's the only thing on their mind with this pick)
4. Minnesota Timberwolves - Evan Turner (perfect fit at the two, he could have turned out as a Brandon Roy for this team)
5. Sacramento Kings - Wes Johnson (also perfect fit at the two or three to complement Tyreke and the Israeli guy (sorry i forgot his name) )
. . .
It would have been nice if Bledsoe or Paul George were still available at 19 for us..
