This guy Green is way overated by many members on this board. When he isn't scoring well you bring up his "intangibles", or his potential. The guy was brought in to provide offense off the bench and give the starters a rest. (which he has yet to do)
He is below average to even most bench players in whatever he brings outside of scoring. When he's not scoring Jeff Green is useless and the C's are playing 4 on 5.
The potential is so overplayed its making me sick. what good is potential and versatility if he can't bring it during a big game. If Jeff Green really has all star potential why doesn't anyone else but delusional celtics fans think he was a good trade?
Gee, it's so good there is someone to let us know about "this guy Green".
For starters, when he isn't playing defense or rebounding, "that guy Perkins" is also quite useless.
Then, I don't remember anyone talking about "potential" when discussing Green. He's 25 and has been in the league for 4 seasons. What you see is what you get. The question is can he adjust and be a consistent contributor with the Celtics. He responded quite well when he was inserted in the starting lineup, but unfortunately that's not on the table right now.
As for why no-one but Celtics fans likes the trade -- first, this isn't necessarily true. And second, every time you acquire a major piece of a team that's had success in the past, that gets tabbed as a good trade. Perkins, however, is the quintessential "system guy", and while he fits nicely both with the Celtics and the Thunder, the Celtics will quite soon need to add more critical pieces to the fold. So unlike the Thunder, they can't afford the luxury to resign him for multiple years, since having major cap space locked up into Rondo, Perkins, and a 35-year-old Paul Pierce is not exactly a stellar core.
My best guess? Look for them to make a major run at Dwight Howard a year from now.
