When presented with a bad situation, I suppose you can either laugh, cry, or put on green tinted drunk-goggles and pretend everything is going to work out in the end.

You and I apparently choose different options.

So, if the opinion doesn't go along with your overreactionary, not thinking outside of the moment opinion, then it means the person is wearing green tinted drunk-goggles? Sure thing, bro.

In what way am I living in denial?  The Celtics didn't win last season.  They didn't have enough.  They certainly had more than I thought, which was nice.  I very much enjoyed their run to the Finals.  But I was not alone in thinking they were probably headed for a second round exit last year.  That was the prevailing opinion of most people last year, even Celtics commentators who don't tend to be particularly objective.  The Celtics were able to "flip the switch" and become almost a different team in the post-season, which is somebody nobody could have predicted except with "green faith" kind of optimism.  

Ultimately, however, the same key problems that dogged the team throughout the regular season (poor rebounding, no depth, stagnant 4th quarter offense) cropped up again and prevented them from winning a championship.  So it goes.  I still appreciate that team - notice I remember them in my signature as "the gutsy warriors of '10."  They weren't champions, but they were still a good team worth remembering.  I was disgusted by them in the regular season, but in the playoffs they gave me reason to be proud of them.  I hope the same happens again this year.

The same key problems that eventually sunk the team last year are still there.  There's no guarantee that those problems will sink them again, but they probably will.  I say that because the Celtics' potential opponents are tougher and the Celtics are again without HCA after the first round.  As always, I hope that the Celtics go all the way.  I don't believe they will, though I would enjoy hearing any persuasive arguments to try to convince me otherwise.

I disagree with this completely as I did with a lot of self-proclaimed "realists" who felt the labeled "optimists" were unrealistic.

In fact if you watched the games, there were a TON of moments in the regular season where the Celtics showed us glimpses of what they were capable of and played like the best team in the league, including a record-breaking start.  They consistently built huge leads on opponents in the first half and then gave them away with "relaxed" or "uninspired" play/attitude/effort, including times in which they were booed by the entire Garden for not really playing.

For those of you who couldn't see they saving themselves they even SPELLED IT OUT FOR US by saying so in conferences, interviews, etc. (even Perk said they were just bored).  There were just as many reasons for people to stay positive as there were reasons like you listed for people to be negative (except maybe attention on CelticsBlog).

Now I'd be lying if I said I didn't have "faith" or believed that the Celtics can win any game or overcome any deficit because they're my team and that's the light in which I like to see them (call me a pro-Celtic if you'd like) and because Kevin Garnett tells me anything's possible.  But that last statement you made in that paragraph is completely ridiculous and false.

Im with you. Once again they will prove the doubters wrong. Ray and Paul playin nasty, KG's holdin down the d, Rondo playin like playoff rondo and once again we'll be right there at the end

Totally agree with you. Last year I had no doubt in my mind that the Celtics would make it to the finals. Its sad that the media and Celticblog can really change perception that the "Celtics were doomed" and had no chance, and act like it was a miracle that they beat the top teams in the playoffs

Are you kidding me?  Chicago has one of the deepest scariest benches in the league.  They are by far the best defensive bench in the league with a great mix of speed (Watson), shooting (Korver), experience (Thomas), athleticism and length (Brewer and Gibson)and youth and potential (Asik)

I really like KG matched up with Boozer on both sides of the ball,Rondo can play better d on Rose than he has and make him a little less dominant, and I really think Deng is a guy that will wilt under pressure. Noah I find annoying but he impresses me.

Deng will get thoroughly outplayed by Pierce in this upcoming matchup.

I think Deng will look better than you're expecting.  If C's get that far, that's when Green would really be valuable if he steps up because Green's bigger and just as athletic.
