Unlikely trade scenario but worth a look

Nene and JR(5mil) for BBD(6.5) and Green(7.5) and the LAC 1st

Despite how well their new young group is playing, they won't duplicate those results next season. Felton won't stay as a backup PG at a starter's pay, and KMart is as good as gone. JR isn't coming back. A starting 5 of Lawson,Chandler,Green,Davis and Mosgov is a good young core to play with, tank and draft, and restart

Nene brings the tenacity of Perk, some bulk, and he's offensively talented. He, along with JR, could catch oops all day from Rondo. JO plays main big off the bench, and JR works his 6th man role for a year until Ray retires.
Can't stop, Rondo!

It's going to take a loooooooooooooot more than that to land Nene.

Free-Agency next year is going to be interesting. Quite a few players out there that would be nice fit at the mid-level range, and quite a few quality players that seem to be that would be available at minimum value, plus all the trade scenarios we can come up with.

I have to think that Smith wants to get starter's minutes somewhere.

As long as we are talking about his point guard skills, how about his chances in Miami? Better shooter than either Bibby or Chalmers.

A no-remorse gunner who plays no defense, and expects major minutes?

Does that fit here? Hmmm, let's see... no, I didn't think so.

Can you simultaneously sign and trade 3 players?  Has it ever happened?  Besides, I can't see Denver wanting to add Jeff Green when they already have Chandler and Gallinari.

They could be interested in Big Baby.  Baby would shore up their big man rotation.

For that scorer off the bench role, I don't think he is worth this type of money if Jeff Green is still on the team. Just not enough minutes for both of them.

I don't think he is an upgrade over Jeff either. A better scorer, sure, but overall, not much of a difference between the two of them.

As a future replacement for Ray Allen, I like JR Smith. I think Rondo and JR would be a very nice pairing.

I think JR Smith would be viewed as combo guard by the C's, along the lines of House and D. West.  As a 1/2, I don't think they would see his role overlapping with Green at the 3/4.

I also think they will want to ease their reliance on Ray.  His defense is showing signs of slippage (consider how much we've struggled whenever our opponent puts two quick guards on the floor at once) but they've had no one to go to other than the oft-injured and undersized D-West or Von Wafer.
You would use JR Smith as a point guard?

I'd rather keep him on the wing but he could do that. He's played reasonably well there in the past. Decision making is pretty sketchy though. More comfortable with him on the wing where he can concentrate on being an attacker / scorer.

It wouldn't be my ideal, but is he any less suitable for the role than House, Robinson, TA or D-West?  Doc and Danny have always been willing to throw 2-guards into the fire at the point.

Yep, definitely a chance that this happens ... but if JR Smith is playing 33-35 minutes a night he'll be scoring 16-18ppg and only earning $6 million or so a year. So even if he failed to solidify himself here, he'd still be a terrific trade asset.

Now if he is in a bench role and he fails to impress, well, then he's not going to bring much back in a trade.

TP

Of course, he could learn to play D on this team... and just 2 months after signing here we'll be bashing him for not playing as hard as TA.

JR is a very talented offensive player, and could play D if he learns the system and buys into team concept. A lot of ifs, but for the MLE I'd take him as a super-Eddie Mansion microwave off the bench. When Ray and PP roles decrease, he could even start.

I bet there's someone who offers him a starting spot and more than the MLE, but wouldn't it be great to get him for that prize?. I don't see Danny trading significant pieces to get him.

A guy who quits on his team after 2 playoff games in the middle of a series? No thanks, what a jerk he is! His team is built on unselfish play, so I guess he really doesn't fit in, but he could have waited a few weeks to say so, or spoken up before the playoffs.

To be fair, he "quit" on his team by saying he was extremely frustrated by the fact that his coach benched him after only seeing brief playing time during a blowout against the Thunders when he was seemingly the only Nugget that was actually trying to bring some effort.

I think part of the reason he doesn't think he "fits" in Denver is because he is still coming off the bench and not playing huge minutes.  Unless we are getting rid of Pierce or Allen this summer, I am not sure he will see Boston as fitting any better.

If he were willing to come here, I would certainly be happy with it (although a bit skeptical, because he is a major headcase, despite the talent), but I just don't see this being the type of situation he will be looking for.

If he does come here it will be because he sees Ray Allen taking a smaller role and/or moving on.

Yeah, and i don't see that happening (well, unless next season is cancelled).
