Ok, after this 2 games, and because i can't wait for game 3, I'll explain my theory.

We know the Celtics blew their chances to be #2 seed late in the regular season, although Doc and Danny and the players have said HCA was crucial this year. They lost the chance to get HCA against not only Miami, but also to the Fakers. Why?

We've seen Indy causing trouble to Chicago, but the Celtics, after horrid end of the regular season, lost #1 before the critical 4 last games. Philadelphia tried hard to steal game 1, but they didn't succeed, and they'll be happy if they win one over the Miami Hype Machine.

So, why the Celtics were losing games if they were going to play the best team out of Philly, Indiana and New York? They made it look like an accident, but I bet they did on purpose... why? Melo and the refs are the answer.

Doc and Danny wanted the team to face an offensive superstar in Carmelo, and a refs favorite team. That's the only way to get experience if they're going to beat the Miami Hype Machine in the Eastern Semifinals. It makes sense, we've all seen the refs help Miami in game 1, and Chicago in the first two games in order to avoid upset. With the Bricks, they made a couple of questionable calls in our favor, but the rest of the games, and specially all over game 2 with the 3 stooges, they've killed Celtics momentum. They kept game 2 tight, when it should have been a blowout.

Of course, the difference between Celtics and Knicks with Amare and Chauncey out demanded extra help. Doc, who is a genius, used his famous Green/Baby big men combo for a while, and overused Baby to exhaust him and give a little advantage to the Bricks. His gamble almost costed the game, but in the end KG was too much.

I have no doubt Shaq won't play until the second round, and now Jermaine will be used too little to even things if Amare and Billups are not back. Game 3 will be another Celtics win, and maybe game 4 will be a Knicks win to earn some extra cash.

Meanwhile, we are cursing Doc, Danny, Big Baby, Jeff Green, the O'Neal brothers and even Nenad, Murphy, Sasha... we better relax, because this is a practice round to get the newcomers used to playoff reffing. Facing offensive stars like Melo and maybe Amare and Billups is also useful for Danny and Doc purposes. Don't be fooled by Danny and Doc, they are lying all the time. #18 is on its way.

Go Celtics!!!!

Nice fantasy.

How did we blow the two seed late in the regular season? If they won in Miami in April, it's their's. New York is by far the toughest competition in the East in the first round. Would be a horrible idea to tank to play the toughest opponent's, for any reason.

Ironic that they look at times like they're tanking against the Knicks........

They're still sweeping the series.

Even if the reason was to get some momentum so they could flip the switch or to play a team with a weak defense to get their offense back in rhythm?  I obviously don't buy the theory but I don't think it was the wrong move for Doc to rest our guys and drop in the standings.

First round opponent doesn't mean anything unless you're the Mavs and homecourt vs Miami means even less.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Not buying that, however, I could buy a conspiracy theory that Shaq really could go right now, but the C's think they can take NY without him and want to make sure he's 100% for Miami.

I hope it does not come back to bite them in the "you know where". I dont like to tempt the devil or, like others say, Watch you dont get what you wished for".

Simply put: no.

A team with KG, Pierce, Allen, etc are not tanking games to try to have a tougher playoff schedule.

However, I'm happy we got matched up with the Knicks. The C's seem to get complacent when facing "easy" teams in the first round (see 2008). Last year, we had a tough playoff road and the Magic had a very easy one, sweeping their first two rounds. And look at what happened to them. They never got their wake-up call until we were up 3-0 against them in the East Finals.

We win round 1 regardless.  None of the teams prepare us adequately for Miami or L.A.  Losing homecourt against either team is painfully dangerous.  The gains (getting to play slightly better competition, which most view as a loss...) do NOT outweigh losing HCA against both Miami and L.A., both of which we'll have to play to win a championship...

IF they tanked it at all, it would be to avoid Dwight Howard.  This would make the most sense since we traded away the only guy who could play him one on one.

welcome to CB, rw007... the difference between being #2 and #3 was not avoiding Howard, it's all about HCA against Miami and the first round rival. The Celtics picked what's best for them.

By the way, for obvious reasons, I'm not going to defend my "theory". We'll all be witnesses of how well it will work out. Even the negatrons around here will be repeating "Danny is a genius", and "Doc is Coach of The Year".  ;D

thanks, I drank a lot of Green Kool Aid... and I'd love to take a sip at Old E 800, but I'd never heard about it until now. CB is the best place in the Internet, and it's doing wonders for my English skills too.

by the way, I wasn't serious when I started the thread, but after reading replies, I'm starting to think Doc and Danny are lying about everything. Shaq is ready to go, for sure, and Doc is saving Nenad for the next rounds... it makes sense, right?

Can't wait for next Celtics game. Have fun.
