We've been bad at rebounding ball for.... A LONG TIME.

This isn't a new problem.

I think this is something we are all going to have to deal with when the C's play young, athletic teams.  We seem to be a step late to get to the ball, or expecting another team member to grab the ball.  Seems like we do give a good effort, but at times we aren't athletic enough, or have the natural jumping ability to go get the ball.  If you don't have that natural ability then rebounding comes down to desire. They just have to want it more.

Either way, we need to somehow get control of the defensive glass.  The lack of boards on O not as big a concern, but against more talented teams all these 2nd chance points are going to be the difference between winning a series and losing it.

There's bad at rebounding the ball, then there's tonight.

Oh my god we need a guy that can jump for a rebound. Baby physically can't do it. More jermaine at the 5 pleeeeeease.

exactly, unfortunately the C's starters aren't full of guys with incredible leaping ability.  Rondo has great leaping ability, but he needs a bit of a running start.  J Green has good hops, but doesn't seem aggressive enough to use that to his advantage on the boards.  Von has good natural leaping ability...

we just need to use desire, hustle and position to do better on the glass.  it is 100% possible to be better than we were tonight.  Can't be any worse.

The guards don't box out either. Ray is a massive culprit of defending a shot then going bounding up the floor looking for his own shot. If a guy like melo is grabbing 15 boards, EVERYONE including the guards, has to box out.

Leaping ability has little to do with rebounding. Size and length most certainly help, but determination and will mean just the same.

Kevin Love was THE rebounding machine this season, yet there are a handful of 4-5's on each team with better athleticism (and usually size) than him.

The C's have the right players to rebound, but apparently the wrong method/desire.

I think we are saying similar things, but I don't agree about leaping ability having little to do with rebounding.

Leaping ability / size / length certainly does play into rebounding.  You think Rondo would get 1/2 as many rebounds if he didn't have natural leaping ability?  Of course 75% of rebounding is hustle and desire.  But you can't teach leaping ability and size, perfect example is glen davis.  Just because he hustles and gets good position doesn't mean he ends up with the ball.  In the playoffs EVERYONE will be bringing the desire. If you are undersized and have no lift, then you have your work cut out for you.  Doesn't mean it can't be done.

It is certainly possible to be a good rebounder with little jumping ability / length and size, but it takes a great effort and great timing (athletic ability).  For every Kevin Love there is a Blake Griffin and a Dwight Howard that become very hard to stop on the boards because they can jump out of the gym and over people.

I think the C's rebounding problems are not only we aren't great leapers, but most of the guys don't have great rebounding instincts or timing.  They all have great hustle and effort but that just isn't good enough against certain teams.

This is simple, when we crash the boards with the whole team we rebound. When we don't we have trouble.

In the first game, everyone was going after defensive rebounds. Last night not so much, and it showed.

The Knicks have a lot of players with long arms which bothers us, evident with how they're bothering Jeff and Davis on the defensive end, and they make it difficult for us to rebound the ball. So let's get everyone involved.

It also doesn't help when Doc goes small with Davis at the 5.

I don't know why we aren't seeing more of Jeff at the 3 with Paul at the 2.

When the other team plays small ball, yet they're winning the rebounding battle (by far), you have to put out a big lineup!

yep it was obvious last night we missed Shaq.  Between the Oneals NY would have got maybe 1/2 the boards they did. Shaq wouldn't be pushed around inside by the likes of Mello.

Again, Krstic is mental and dismal defender, when your 7ft and decent size , he needs to stand in there a guard the dang rim. If he fouls out in 10 minutes thats ok, PLEASE grab some rebounds and make a stop or two.  He is scard to take his lumps inside .  He avoids all the contact or runs from it.

At least Davis will mix it up , push and shove , and show effort underneath.

We have plenty of offensive weapons , we need more HARD nose players like KG and Davis and West.

Jo is giving some nice effort for a recovering guy. Very pleased , could have been no JO at all.

We can win without Shaq , but its NOT going to be easy.

Because Doc prefers to have Ray Allen on the court.

We outrebounded them in Game 1 and we won.

They outrebounded us in Game 2 and we won.

Rebounding is overrated.

We definitely are.

On the bright side, it's not exactly a strength of Miami's either
