Agree almost 100 percent with the OP. I think the Celts, however, squeak by the Knics in 7 and then lose to the Heat. Just saw on the news that Shaq still can't even walk without pain. Shaq is done and the shot at 18 is pretty much over. Danny gambled and Danny is going to lose.

Bottom line our 4 main guys have to play well, as it always been. If those guys play well and do their job, and then the rest of the guys end up crapping up the joint then I'd see a legit complaint. But I don't know how seriously I can be about complains against marginal impact players like Krstic, Green, etc. if the guys we're counting on are playing like crap.

And until now, in the 2nd half, we've yet to see our main guys put the effort and focus for me to conclude in a satisfactory manner that status of our team.

My optimism in the playoffs stems from the idea that these guys will show up in the playoffs as they've done before to a good degree. If they do that, I don't really envision why we should be concerned about a big man rotation that currently involves KG, Davis, Krstic, and JO... and after that we have decent hope for Shaq to be able to play at some point, and Murphy, who has been playing better as of late as he has begun to be more comfortable in our system. And in special cases, we can throw Green in there, particularly to play alongside KG.

The Celtics need healthy size against the elite teams.  Hopefully both Shaq and JO will be available so this team has it's best shot at winning.

I will judge the trade at the february 2012 trade deadline (if there's one). Then it will be clear where Danny wanted to go with all this summer of KG strategy.

The Celtics president made this trade based on the premise that Shaq would be back and playing effectively. The Celtics president has talked on and on about how much more effective Rondo and the offense are when Shaq is playing. All I have heard from the Celtics president is how Shaq's presence opens things up for Rondo on the offensive end and on and on and on. There is no way that all of a sudden Shaq doesn't matter.

The Celts were something like 27-9 when Shaq started. Now all of a sudden he is a no-impact player on this team? Sorry, but that argument does not carry a lot of water.

I bring them up because many of them have good understanding of the NBA game.  With actual NBA experience.

Get me the Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG that started this season with that level of energy and focus, and all this ends up being nonsense.

Of course, that doesn't mean that Shaq in there doesn't make things easier for these guys, but the reason why the numbers currently don't add up is primarily because our four guys just haven't been playing like they should. And the thing is that this has been a pattern for the last 3 years or so during the same span of time.

I don't see how much more impact Perk in there has, with his limited minutes, could have had in a team with JO and Krstic commanding the middle in a last year vs. this comparison. Is it that big of a difference in your opinion? It really makes little sense to me. Shaq being in here would simply make this team be over the top, without him, we should still be a championship level team.

I don't believe e was calling Shaq a no-impact player, and shame on him if he was.

i have to disagree with the OP on some level. i wasn't a fan of the trade, but i understood it. i do think Shaq will be able to help us still. and if not him, then JO will.

and i have to believe that this team has not burned out. Rondo will make us believers once more, much like he did in the playoffs last year. It may take a severe beatdown by the Knicks (perhaps even getting blown out in game 1) for him to wake up and realize that Perk is gone and that Perk is taking care of his own business in OKC, for him to play at a high level once more. and that's ok. The Celtics have been saying the right thing for weeks now, but they haven't backed it up with any real meaningful performance.

I am one of the first fans here who was shocked and displeased by the trade. I have never gotten over it really, and really saw our downfall which some can't even see it even when it really is obvious and shows!

I am still routing for the Celtics, win or lose. I will still watch every game. But realistically, I don't see them winning from now on.
