I actually see the crazy focus on Perkins absence as a sign of respect. All these players on rival teams and 'experts who just like our rivals better' are using the absence of this really good role player as a psychological boost.

Why keep harping on saying how confident you are now? Sometimes thou doth protest too much. I think they still have respect for what the Celtics can do in the playoffs.

well up until we started getting crushed by bad teams on a regular basis absolutely everyone was singing our praises and talking about how dominant we are. The celtic were the team to beat until people started beating them...

Maybe in the Globe. I can't remember seeing one word of praise on ESPN. At least they could have tried to make it look they were impartial. And there hasn't been much talk about our injuries either, while every time James or Wade miss a game they  are quick to point it out. Oh well. I hope we win it all and stick it in their faces.
Michael Wilbon, Tony Kornheiser, Woody Paige, Tony Reali, Job Barry,  Jalen Rose, Stan Verett, JA adande, Kevin blackistone, and pretty much everyone else i've ever seen on ESPN have been high on the celtics all year. I dont see what you're talking about.

Maybe I should've said "written" word, it seems everyone over there is always sucking up to the Lakers and the Heat, at least in their articles. In all fairness, I don't watch many clips and interviews on ESPN, so I guess I'll have to take your word for it, which I have no problem with.

Celtics have gotten more praise on ESPN than any other team.

Even more than the Lakers and Heat? Doesn't sound like ESPN to me but again, I'll take your word for it.

Danny Granger says we're more dangerous than the Bulls:

And that's coming from one of the first (THE first?) guys to say that we're different without Perk.

Given the way this team has played since mid March, let's be real here, they deserve no respect when it comes to post season expectations.

I still think they are the best team in the league when healthy but that's been the caveat all year...health. Danny gambled that Shaq would be healthy and Perk wouldn't and lost that gamble. Now lets see if a healthy Jermaine O'Neal can help this team win it all.

I agree. We've been soft for a while now and don't deserve much respect. Once the playoffs start and Shaq is back there are no more excuses. Time to step up and bust some ass.

I think that has more to do with the fact that Granger is going to be playing the Bulls in the first round.  He doesn't want to come out and say "I wish Boston was the first seed" he wants to see "I'm glad Chicago is the first seed" because it adds confidence.

The problem is when someone says the Celts are to be feared it's seen as just rhetoric, but if someone says the Celts aren't that good it's seen as the gospel truth.

Oh and by the way...LA is reeling and they get a free pass.
They've been to the Finals for the last three years and won 2 of them. They also have one of the greatest players to ever play the game on that team. I hate Kobe with a passion but it's still true.

As for Boston, as of right now we shouldn't get very much respect. We went from first in the east to third and let the top teams smack us around. We're not looking very good at all right now.

If they want respect then win for once.
Peace through Tyranny
