Why?!?

I know the dude was a rookie and injured a lot, but dang he showed Celtics heart. He looked crushed when we traded him to Cleveland.... for a 2nd round pick.

Hope it works out, but Murphy has been disastrous thus far, guy is so soft getting bullied on the court 24/7.

Murphy has been terrible, but I understand that particular gamble.  When healthy, Murphy provides elite-level rebounding and shooting (along with very poor defense).  He could have been a valuable player, and I understand why Danny was intrigued.

Unfortunately, he's just not right this year.  When a shooter injures his back and legs, that can kill his game, and that seems to be what has happened to Murphy.  There were some rumors out of NJ that he was cooked, and I guess they were true.

Yeah makes sense that he was let go by both NJ and GS now. Oh well, better luck next year.

I wish we could have just dumped Harangody for him and kept Erden over Sasha

Maybe Erden was not Doc's favorite player. He said a couple of times, that Erden didn't seem to understand all instructions, and while Doc would joke about it, I guess he wasn't convinced that Erden was coachable for the stort run and would rather have an NBA veteran. That is my guess.

Semih Erden trade was unnecessarily. I'm still puzzled by it.  ???

We wanted to open 2 roster spots. It is impossible to know how well Murphy will play ahead of the pickup. Ainge does not have a time machine.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
at least Murph is a body to throw in there when we are in DEEP foul trouble.
He can also practice against the big guys.

Erden has played one game for the Cavs I think. He's injured and wouldn't have played the playoffs anyway. (at least I'm pretty sure of that).

Can't argue the trade if Erden can't play.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I was about to post his season box score w/ the Cavs again, but he has played in the last 2 games despite earlier reports that he was out for the season. Still, I think the decision made sense. Erden had been plagued by injuries and they needed a body in the playoffs.

Semih Erden was awful. A very poor defender / rebounder.

I don't understand all this praise he has been getting.

We must have been watching different players.  Semih looked to be improving as the season went.  He was ok as a rebounder, shot blocker and defender.  He definitely provided heart and hustle.  Murphy isn't providing any of that.

Initially I though Murphy would be a terrific pickup but I was envisioning the Murphy that played in Indy.

Here's my half joking - half serious question:

What exactly did Troy Murphy do, or I guess not do, in order to get himself into this kinda shape?

His RB% was 12.1, as a C. That's Rasheed Wallace territory. He was particularly bad on the defensive glass 17% of available boards, Paul Pierce get a similar percentage as a SF.

No, but he does have a medical report
