Jeff Green or Tony Allen: Who would you take?

Based on nothing more than talent and how they would fit this team; Who would you take?

We've seen Tony for years and were probably more disappointed than happy. Having said that, he looks very good in Memphis.

We've only seen Green for a few months. He's been a big disappointment so far. Seems to have plenty of talent on paper, but rarely shows it on the court. His stats seem to show he had some success in OKC and hopefully, when he is more comfortable, we will see that here.

I would take Tony, and I think Danny made a mistake this off-season sticking with Marquis and not paying Tony.  That said, I think Tony wanted a starting gig somewhere and he probably wanted to be out of our price range. 

Jeff Green has the talent to be better than Tony but he clearly isn't utilizing it effectively.

Tony, and I was a Tony "hater".  However, Tony fit into this team, and thus far, Jeff Green hasn't.  Tony was a decent rebounder and penetrator, and a very good defender.  He was extremely frustrating, but at least he impacted games on most nights (whether that impact was positive or negative was another matter entirely.)

That being said, I don't know what happened with the negotiations.  Danny says it wasn't about money, and Tony said he wanted a bigger role.  If Danny had been more aggressive earlier maybe things would have been different, but without more information I have to take Tony at face value.

I think it is unfair to compare the two because Tony was on the Celtics and knew the system for much longer than Jeff Green has been in green.

I would rather have Jeff though. Much higher basketball IQ, even if he is passive. More athletic. He makes intelligent plays with the ball, knows when he has a mismatch and could significantly affect the game if he wanted to. I still feel like Doc is using them wrong. If he went to a team like the Spurs he could probably flourish.

I don't think Tony could do that...but he has worked well for Memphis so maybe I'm wrong?

Tony hands down, and that's saying something. I still can't believe we let Tony walk and then traded our starting big man for a TA replacement and a euro center named curly nads...what the heck?

Jeff Green, of course because he protects and shoots the ball much better than TA.

TA has made a lot of turnovers during crucial matches and plays and eventually destroyed several game flows. He could have been ok had he developed a consistent jumpshot and 3-point range. And I agree that he could have been starting over Ray to jumpstart some games due to his and Rondo's quickness. Ray coming from the bench could have made him much more productive since he would be coming in with fresh legs.

However, there is a glaring clarity that Jeff has the superior height, talent, skill, athleticism and youth over TA. He too does create mismatches at SF and can fit PF when small ball is at play. His defense though is work in progress. Even Larry Bird is a big fan of him.

TA but to be honest, I've always been a TA supporter. 

TA brought great D and hustle.  He brought foot speed on the break and could finish on the break.  The more minutes he got, the better he played (usually).  He doesn't have Green's offensive repertoire or height, but TA fit this team better.

Revisionist history here.

First of all, if Allen is considered a "decent" rebounder, than Green should be considered  a good rebounder, considering Green's career rebound rate is 9.4 and Allen's is 8.3. This season, Green is at 8.5 and Allen is at 7.7.

Secondly, Allen never fit in with this team. Yes, he was a good defender. But offensively, his decision-making was so poor that it hurt the team more than he helped. He was a terrible shooter and ball-handler.

Easy: Tony Allen right now, Jeff Green starting in October.

As some smart folks have been saying from the beginning, the legacy of the trade sure seems like its going to be a team that would have won the title traded that away for maybe getting a better future. Jeff can't seem to fit in and Rondo has blown up. Throw in JO and Shaq playing hardly at all and you have a disaster.

I was much more hopeful than that but its not looking good.

I hold out hope that the switch gets hit. I know exactly where I was when Mia was up on us by something like ten early in the 3rd q of game 1 last year. I heard the score and thought, my god we just aren't going to wake up....and right then we did. Im still hoping

I've always loved Tony and supported him on this site. I knew it was a mistake letting him go.
