Iverson couldn't do it, and he remains miles ahead of Rose.

Isaiah was a point guard that could score, not a scoring pg.

I'm curious about this, because Westbrook, Williams, Rose, and Wall are all score-first, and I thought you weren't supposed to build a team around a scoring pg.

Was Parker really the first-option on those 2005 and 2007 teams?

2007.

Topic title doesn't say "number one option point guard."  It says "scoring PG."  In other words, the point guard is primarily a scorer, not a passer.  Tony Parker fits the bill.  So does Chauncey.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Allen Iverson is the greatest scoring PG of all time.

I honestly can't think of a team that had their number one option as a scoring PG and won the flag.

Poor Iverson had Keith Van Horn as his starting center.
Never stood a chance.

I wouldn't say that Deron Williams is a score first PG- absolutely not. Compare the amount of shots he takes to the other two.
Rose and Westbrook though yes.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'd have to say Parker.  He was definitely more of a scoring guard than a playmaker.

I'd say Isiah.  Although, his assist numbers were pretty solid also.

I agree with the Parker / Chauncey examples.  Neither was a "pure" point guard, and both were among the primary scoring options on their teams.

Neither was as good as Rose, but how many PGs are?

Another thing:  even if something hasn't been done before doesn't mean it's impossible (of course).  Before the 2008 Celtics got together, how many teams had immediately gelled like that and had such a huge turnaround?  None.

D-Wade?

Wade's a shooting guard, not a point guard.

I would definitely say Tony parker. He played spectacular in '07 to win both the championship and the finals MVP. But let's not forget that Duncan was still the anchor of that team.

D-wade you could argue played PG because when he first came into the league he was listed as PG/SG. In '06 he handled the ball probably the most.

I wouldn't argue for Billups because he didn't really do their main scoring. He only averaged 15-20ppg. I would say Hamilton was their main scorer.

The failure for the Bulls to win a title will not be because their best player is a PG. I think the league has changed enough now where you can win a championship with a PG. Its the fact that the team is too young. Young folks don't win championships.
