I watched the replay and noticed on several possessions we exhaust almost half of the shot clock trying to get Ray a shot, and when we did he missed. That's ok if once in a while. But no, it kept going. I counted 5 possessions in the 2nd qrtr where we turned it over doing that routine and chicago scoring 8 pts. that gave then an 11 pt lead. For whatever its worth, there you go.

TP, Ray and the C's have to find some way to get around that better. Maybe set a pick up top?

Tommy described our offense perfectly.  "Rondo directing traffic for 20 seconds."
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Definitely too much pounding the ball by Rondo at times, but I gotta give Ray props, he was working hard off the ball to get open tonight, but Bogans was getting away with murder, holding Ray, hooking his arms, fouling people getting around picks ... he should've had six fouls by halftime! Seriously, Ray was getting mugged by Bogans all night long, and I think he only had like two or three whistles.

Bogans really was playing some dirty, dirty basketball last night.  It's not going to get any better for the playoffs though

Rondo needs to be a threat to drive during those 20 seconds. When the other team knows he is just going to stand there and wait for Ray to get open it makes it extremely difficult for Ray to free himself.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

rondo needs to drive to the hoop, draw the defense in and then kick it out to Ray....thats how you get Ray open instead of pounding the ball waiting for him to run off a screen..

then when hes not open, you have to have pierce or KG force up a shot because we have 9 seconds to make something happen....its ALL on Rondo IMO....if hes not driving to the hoop then the C's offense isnt that great...as he goes so do the celtics

I want to say, "let Ray take to the hoop more to get going," but he has been a turnover machine of late.  Don't know the solution, but agree that the offense has gotten bogged down trying to find him open for a 3.  Seems his best chance is in transition buckets, but those seem fewer and farther between of late.

Are we assuming that the other nba teams don't know our "run Ray through some screens to get him open" play?

yeah this tends to happen a lot an it is incredibly annoying. The other offense that is terrible is let Rondo stand at the top of the key, overload one side and have KG stand in the post, wait 18 seconds to pass it to him while everyone stands around. Then take a poor jump shot. So irritating.

Only difference is, there is no one playing right now to set the good screens.

We've heard this from Tommy on broadcasts over the last two months and he's exactly right.  As old as some key players on this team are, we actually need to speed the game up to be most effective.  That means running off of turnovers, getting defensive rebounds and getting into the offense much quicker than we've been doing.

With older legs, we cannot continue to work as hard as we work just to get a single 1 and done shot.  We have great shooters and need to take the first good open shot we have at times and not wait until we get exactly what we're wanting out of each possession.  Ray is working so hard for only 6 or 7 attempts a game and that's stupidity.

Doc and Rondo have to change this if we are to have playoff success.
