I see the Delonte comparison, but Danny was a signficantly better shooter and scorer, and he was much less injury prone.

Danny was a better defender as well.

Reddick.

Besides being white and hitting 3's, they are not even close.

That's why I'd agree with everyone mentioning the likes of Delonte AND Manu.  If you combine their best attributes on both sides of the ball and their unique personalities, you are closer to Danny.

The Delonte comparison holds up okay, Manu is just a much better player.

http://bkref.com/tiny/xRX6k (3 way comparison through first seven years)

Manu is a tough compare since he came in polished, both DA and West have had to season. West's got more TOs and more athleticism (rebounding and blocks), DA gets the edge with the shooting and efficiency.

For now I'd say West. Jameer and DA compare favorably, except Jameer's stats are skewed by the high utilization of being primary ball handler. Which gets back to why I like the West/Ainge comparison - they are both better as a combo guard role / non-primary ball handler, but capable when called in to bring the ball up.

Steph Curry?

Great shooter, decent PG, the only problem is that Ainge didn't show his great outside stroke until his 5th year.

If you compare 27 year old Danny, to 22 year old Curry:

what about Hinrich?

Danny always shot a great FG% for a guard, Hinrich has always shot a horrible one. Other than that the defense, leadership, passing... it's all there.

Kyle Lowry? Danny was bigger, but Lowry plays bigger than his listed size.

Personality-wise, how about Stephen Jackson? Haha.

After thinking about it a bit and trying to come up with relatively versatile players that are all heart, whine to ref's constantly, and are incorrigible chuckers, I'll take back my previous "gut" call for Reddick and say old pal Antoine Walker.

So, here's my follow-up question.  Does it seem like some people in this thread think that Ainge was primarily a point guard?

I think he was a combo guard, leaning toward SG.

Also: decent glove, no bat.

My memory of Danny as a PG was that he resembles more of a Hinrich-Manu type of player.
