I love how we currently have 3 of these combo guys mentioned Shaq, KG, and Ray on our team.   The are 4  teams I came up with 2 combo guys the 80s Celtics with Bird and McHale, and the 80s Lakers with Kareem and Magic, the mid 90s Rockets as both Hakeem and Barkley were mentioned, and Rodman and Jordan.

Already bested that with the Shaq/Hakeem combo.

The thing to me about a Shaq/Hakeem combo is that legitimately it seems to defy the laws of physics. While its not unrealistic for a guy Shaq's size to develop a jumper like Hakeem's midrange or a softer touch around the hoop, it seems to me it would be physically impossible to replicate Hakeem's agile moves on offense with a guy that is 7'1 and easily 320+.

There are definitely some positives there..but I think a Dwight/McHale or even a KG/McHale, or a LeBron/KG, or LeBron/McHale pairing would play out better.

EDIT: Really if you wanted to make it unbeatable, you'd do a LeBron/Jordan pairing. LeBron would learn to be the leader he isn't, and he's so physically gifted, there was nothing Jordan could do that LeBron couldn't.

Michael Jordan + Michael Jordan, and I have left you all in the dust.

More to the point if you combined MJ with someone else you'd end up with MJ, as he'd never be able to coexist with another skillset.

I think that's true, most choices have excluded Jordan because his skill set is so complete and part of the fun here is matching people with complementary skills.

I will say this though: Jordan's one area of mediocrity was long-range shooting. So why not Jordan + Ray Allen?

Click, and any urge to upgrade Michael Jordan© is going to seem felonious.

I suggested Shaqeem also and he would be better than any of the combos you listed.  All you gotta do is replace Shaq's 22s with Hakeems magic feet and Shaq's leg muscles are probably strong enough to replicate the footwork.

If you really want to pick on a scientifically unrealistic combo it would be Shaq+KG because there would be no a dude that big could have that much lateral quickness.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Sorry, but the offensive skills of Michael Jordan mixed with the defensive skills of Bill Russell, is without compare!

My earlier pick:

I would have gone with Larry and Bill, too, then I remembered that MJ's primary position with the Wizards was Small Forward, so I'll have to go with Bill Russell and Michael Jordan, (6'10" & 6'6") ... not much explaining necessary. ;)

I'm a bit late in the game, but

Wilt + Dirk

I don't really see how that player could be stopped.  Wilt was an unstoppable force in the interior, was a great rebounder, and a very underrated defender.  He is also probably the best athlete at center ever with unbelievable conditioning (he averaged 48 minutes a game one year in his prime and the pace was so much quicker back then).  Give him Dirk's shooting touch and ball handling and no one would be able to guard him.

Of active players still in their prime I would combine Dirk and Dwight.

Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Didn't read the whole thread so not sure if anybody mentioned this, but Baby and Shaq. Shaq's dominance with Baby's hustle, jumpshot, free throw shooting and moves around the basket. :o  If Baby was 7 feet tall he'd be a monster!
