Please let Davis walk this summer

Ok, real talk.

Glen Davis is just not a good basketball player. He's shoots a pitifully low percentage for a PF/C, yet that doesn't stop him from chucking up shot after shot and shooting us out of games. Taking more shots than Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and KG? That's the Big Baby special.

If he's actually his listed height of 6'9 I'd be amazed. Either way, he's undersized for his position and has short arms to boot. Translation? He can't play D or rebound against 99% of NBA power forwards and centers.

What is he actually good at? I really don't know. Every minute he's on the court is another minute we aren't putting in a better player than him (say, Jeff Green). I've been saying this for a while now, but if Davis plays more minutes than Shaq does during the playoffs, we will. not. win.

It's that simple.

Bench Davis, and get rid of him ASAP.

BBD has a role to play on this team, and has mostly been great this year.  He's best as a 6th or 7th man, and if that's the role he'll re-sign for, I'm fine with it.

Glen has been a nice backup for KG the last couple of years. Even though he seems to be in a terrible slump I can't throw him under the bus.

I do wish that he'd pass the rock - especially if he isn't scoring with his attempts.

I'd like to see JG incorporated more myself, but I know that Doc will figure this all out.

My thing is this - as frustrated as some are with Glen - who takes his spot next year? JG can play PF only in stretches.

If we can get Glen at a good price - sure I'd love him back.

You're entitled to your opinion, but you're getting really derisive when you start claiming that someone who'd be playing out of position should be in his place, especially when you set the tone for your post by saying he can't guard "99% of NBA power forward and centers". At that point, it sounds like you're trying to bash BBD ad infinitum. Now, you make it sound like you never liked him ever, as opposed to making it seem like you made this topic because you actually haven't liked how he's played lately.

Uh, where did I ever say that I HAVEN'T always disliked him? This isn't a knee-jerk reaction post to some sort of recent slump, like the people who posted "trade Ray!" when he was going through a slump. No, those posts are ridiculous and this is nothing like one of those posts. How so? Because Davis is legitimately terrible and he always has been. So now, I don't think i'm overreacting when I bash him, I'm just speaking the truth.

And frankly, Jeff Green IS a much better option at PF due to the fact he's a much longer player on defense and he can actually hit shots. As far as minutes at center, Davis never should have ever seen minutes at center in the first place.

I'm in a serious love/hate relationship with Big Baby.

Some nights he plays fantastic, outhustles everyone, gets tough rebounds, makes hard shots, etc etc.

Other nights (like tonight) he takes more shots than Ray and Pierce and bricks like crazy, or that one night in Utah where he was doing everything he could to keep the Jazz in the game (he was making me pull my hair out).

I honestly think the biggest problem is what others have said before, limit BBD's minutes to 20-25 range per game max. He's not the best athlete and he gets winded after extended minutes, his efficiency tends to drop considerably.

I think that problem may be reduced a bit once Shaq and JO come back, and we have real centers again besides Kristic and BBD pretending to be one.

To say that he's terrible is a bit unfair, he averages 12 PPG and 6 Rebounds, those are good contributions for a bench player.

Celtics should keep him if he stays for cheap, but if he asks for big money like Perk did then he should probably be let go. He's great cheap frontcourt labor.

My point is, you sound like someone who was just waiting for him to fail to go after them, like you have a vendetta with him for some reason. Especially considering the fact there's already a topic criticizing BBD. At this point, you just sound like someone who's willing to point out all of his cons, and none of his pros. One of his pros is that he can play spot minutes at center, for example, and you don't even appreciate that.

By trading for Green, I think Ainge has signaled that he wants the Celtics of the future to be more of a running offense.  I also think that he envisions Green as a sixth man combo forward coming off the bench who might be the future starting small forward.  I question whether Davis is a good fit for that sort of offense and whether Davis makes sense as the nominal center in a small-ball bench configuration using Green as a power forward.

Davis has some talent, so he's better for the team than some journeyman playing for the veteran's minimum, but I suspect Ainge would not want to commit himself to more than two years because Big Baby is not in his long-term plans as a core player for the team.

Oh, yeah.  Fun BBD stat.  With his 1-12 so far this season, Glen Davis is 3-21 career from three-point-land.  Shaq is 1-22 for his career.  Will Davis pass Shaq this season for total number of career attempts?
