Doesn't Kobe play with broken fingers all the time?

I have to echo the sentiment that Rondo being out has to have something to do with more than just his pinky, whether it's the plantar fascitis acting up, or just his head not being in the right place.  The pinky is just an excuse (perhaps for the coaching staff, not Rondo himself).

I hope it's just that Rondo needs rest... we need Rondo.

About the Co-b broken fingers... are you sure you are not mistaking him for Chuck Norris or something? He hasn't played with a broken thumb, and those "broken fingers" are more like arthritic fingers with an occasional broken finger.

He played with a broken index finger last year...and it was his shooting hand as well.

The more I think about it Ainge or Doc probably shut em down not just because injury / maybe his attitude and recent play. Give him some time to reflect a bit if you can't give effort and look disinterested out there then sit.

Yes, he was playing with a broken finger last year, but that's not like saying he plays "with broken fingers all the time". Playing through injuries is something to acknowledge, although is not that uncommon. Several Celtics played through injuries and pain since the Orlando series last year.

Not his thumb, but I'm pretty sure Kobe plays with sprained or broken index / middle / ring fingers.  I remember hearing that his fingers at times look painful, even crooked because of how much he gets hacked etc.  Yet he puts on tons of tape and gets shots and plays through it.  Say what you want about Kobe, but he's an iron man.

Ok, I won't argue about Co-b's toughness, or if he's clutch, or about his well-deserved Bill Russell trophy last june. But I wouldn't mistake Co-b for this guy:

And about Rondo, I hope he's back against San Antonio. The Celtics need him.

We all wrote about the pinkie injury last week, and Rondo said it's been bothering him for a couple weeks and anyone who has had any kind of finger injury AND plays basketball, knows it will never get right as long as you play. I can roll with the conspiracy theorists on Shaq being out, but not this one.

This statement is really confusing.  What is the conspiracy theory?  Doc said that Rondo would play if it were the playoffs, just like he has said about Shaq.  There's no conspiracy here.  These guys have bumps and bruises, and they are being rested right now, with the hopes that they will be healthier in the playoffs.

Whether they say its because of his pinkie, or his feet, or anything else, doesn't matter.  The bottom line is he is being held out when he could physically play, so that he can get more healthy before the real meaningful games start.

I don't know. Someone will have to ask Sherrod. I posted that for people who were shocked because Rondo was going to miss a couple of games because of a pinkie injury.

I agree with you about resting injured players...that's what I've been saying in this thread.

He mentions the Shaq conspiracy and doesn't think it applies to Rondo. What's the conspiracy with Shaq though? That he's healthy and they're keeping him out until the playoffs, or that he's not coming back and they're saying he will? Rondo's really injured but he'll be back soon falls outside both possibilities. Then again, maybe I'm just confusing things...

Some guys just whine and complain for the sake of it.

But I don't think it's "just" the pinkie - but other lingering injuries (ankle, plantar fascitis) in addition to the pinkie... Let him rest up, recharge his batteries. What's the point of playing him into the ground before the playoffs even start?

Yeah, I really think Shaq and Rondo are in similar situations.  They are both legitimately "hurt", but not really "injured".  Meaning, they could play through the pain if they needed to.  However, since they have a better chance of being healthier for the playoffs by sitting out some games (or a lot in Shaqs case), then they are having them rest.

Its not a conspiracy at all, it is business as usual in the NBA, and particularly for this C's team, who has done this consistently over the last few years.
