I can't think of too many teams that traded a starter mid-season and went on to win the championship. The one example I can think of -- the '95 Rockets -- replaced their starter (Thorpe) with a better player (Drexler).
That said, Perk was an injured starter, so maybe precedent doesn't apply. Also, just because something hasn't been done doesn't mean it can't be done. That said, I do think there's a reason that most GMs adhere to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy.
We won the trade on paper. Sadly, they don't give trophies for that.
