Looks like he may not be opting out...
And the Hornets might not be in the playoffs.

Yeah.  Some last minute "breaks" (pun somewhat intended) for the Rockets.

I'd love to see the Rockets make the playoffs, even if they get killed in the first round.  Spurs vs. Rockets would be fun to watch.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Grizzlies play them twice too, if they take care of business against just Okafor down low they'll be in too.

Bad news ... David West tore his ACL

Quote
An MRI exam Friday revealed that New Orleans Hornets forward David West suffered a torn ACL Thursday night when his left knee buckled late in regulation in an eventual overtime victory over Utah.

The Hornets immediately feared that West suffered a season-ending injury when it happened, but Friday's MRI confirmed the severity of the injury, which means a months-long absence for West entering what was thought to be a lucrative free-agent summer for him.

One source close to West said the Hornets' power forward is hoping to complete his rehab in six months.

Earning a relatively modest $7.5 million this season for a two-time All-Star, West has resisted attempts by the Hornets at various points of the season to sign a contract extension that would keep him off the market. West will now have to decide whether to opt out of the final year of his contract in spite of the injury or, at age 31, play out the final season, which is also valued at $7.5 million.

Ouch ... that is going to ruin his hopes of a big payday this summer.

It might ruin hopes of a big payday EVER.

Torn ACL at 31., sticks with final year of contract.

Coming off ACL surgury at 32, what kind of contract does he get?  not much.

Finally recovered from injury, showing signs of rust and age at 33.  Perhaps a decent 1-2 year deal.

No big $10+ million per season paydays, which seemed near-certain pre-injury.

Hard to feel bad for a millionaire, but...
