I have always thought LBJ should play PF. I thought clevland was nuts for building a half court team around james. Imagine james as a pf with a good push the pace pg and cable shooters at the 2 and 3. He has size to be a post defender but just like you said the  "want to be like mike" has never alowed him to develop much of an inside game.

for comparason of draft camp measurments

Blake Griffin 6'8.5" 248lbs at 8.2% body fat
Lebron James  6'7.25" 245lbs at 6.7% body fat

30 years ago he would have been Magic Johnson.

I don't think a ton of people who saw Magic play would agree with you.

We are playing the 30 years ago game, and the OP asked if LBJ would be a PF. I think he would rather play the same role as Magic. And if he developed his playmaking skills they wouldn't be that different. Actually his playmaking skills are better than his post up skills.

Definitely not, but I could see him being called a PG.  I don't think they called guys Point Forwards back then but I could be wrong.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Larry Bird was considered one at times, I think Rodney McCray was also seen as one. It's probably around the time the phrase was coined.

Paul Pressy was the 1st player ever called a point forward. Don Nelson, then Coach of the Bucks, was the genius behind it.
