Doc is still trying to figure out how to best use Jeff Green - Link- Nice article.
But this part is a little concerning:
"If you're drafted fifth overall, and you play well, and you're 24 and your team comes to you with an extension offer, if it's not a max deal or near a max deal, there's really no incentive to do it,'' said David Falk, Green's agent. "He might not have been the No. 2 guy in Oklahoma City, but there are a teams out there that might look at him as their No. 2."
I hope we are able to re-sign him to a reasonable contract.
doubt it
but if he's a big piece on our way to 18 by all means he'll deserve it
He doesn't deserve a huge contract that will hurt us in the future just because he played a role in winning a champion ONE YEAR. Do you think Posey deserved the contract he wanted for helping us win 17?
If his agent meant a number 2 on a team like the Timberwolves, maybe. But he is definitely not a number 2 option on a championship team right now, or even a good one. In our case we'd be paying more for him than our number 1 option Rondo. Rondo+Green is not a team to build around especially with 1+2s like Lebron+Wade, Durant+Westbrook, Kobe+Gasol, Melo+Amare out there.
I agree. I wouldn't sign Green for very much at all to be honest. He's got "potential", sure, whatever that means, but he's honestly a bench player on a contending team (literally, as in right now on the Celtics). If he had to be a starter on a contending team, that team wouldn't be a contender unless he were the 4th option at best.
He'd make a great 3rd or 4th option as a starter on a contending team imo......
I mean, if Durant were a 2-guard Green would have been able to start at the 3 and be the third option behind Durant and Westbrook....no problem there....
He could start at the 3 for the Lakers and be the third option behind Kobe and Pau. etc..etc...
I don't know what he's worth, but I know he's good enough to be a starter on any team, contender or not. He's not here, yet, only because we still have a hall of famer playing high level ball at his position
