Doc vetoed an earlier Perkins trade

Now I'm really curious what the other trade was, Peter May also reports the contract offers and cap situation correctly. That's always a nice bonus to read in an article.

I saw that and am also instantly intrigued by this earlier proposed trade.

Let's hope, if it is revealed, that it was unarguably an inferior deal to what we accepted from Oklahoma City.

If not then there could be yet another dimension of anger (and endless debate) about the trade!

Well, either the trade was a similar trade with OKC or a trade with a different team.  If it was Oklahoma City, they could have been planning to acquire Nazr Mohammed and flip him to the Celtics instead of Krstic (then went ahead and got him anyways), but Ainge held out for Krstic.  It could also be that Ainge had a possible deal to Houston for Shane Battier, since they were reportedly asking for Perkins or Glen Davis (may Perk/Robinson for Battier/Brad Miller? plus whatever filler would be needed to make salaries work).

It sounds like Doc strongly wanted to stop Perkins deal No. 1, whatever it was, but wasn't as strongly against or perhaps outright approved the deal that actually happened.

I think the "Doc Vetoed" a trade is taking it a bit far.  Although I have no clue what goes on behind closed doors.  All he said was:  "At the time I talked to him, it was a different deal and I did put a stop to that one. But I also told him that something might still happen," Rivers said.


One of the great things about this organization is how Danny and Doc get along.  They are on the same exact page which isn't always the case with most GM's/Coaches.  Were lucky to have both.

Danny runs everything past Doc from what we've heard in the past.  I doubt he went to him and said, "hey, I'm doing this trade".  I think it was more like, " hey, I just got this proposal, what do you think? ".  Then Doc put a stop to it, or told him he wouldn't like it.  Ultimately its obviously Danny's decision as GM.

They have such a great relationship that Danny doesn't tell Doc he's doing anything.  They work together. He runs everything past Doc to get his take.  Its a well oiled machine.

But again, who knows what goes on behind closed doors.  Just my guess. If I'm guessing again it was probably all about Battier and Houston.  With Perkins involved.

Educated guess was that it was originally just perk for green... Which would have been a significant talent upgrade, but doc probably opposed, because it left too much pressure on relying on shaq and jermaine coming back...  Once the thunder included krstic it became a no-brainer

I thought I heard Brandon Wright's name after the OKC trade went through, but for some reason I got the impression that Perk wasn't involved in that.

I know this is just speculation, but the trade Doc vetoed was probably with an inferior team than OKC. He wouldn't want to trade Perk, but especially not to a crappy organization.

With the trade to OKC, Perkins is in a great situation and has the ability to win championships over the next 10 years. They got rid of a brother, but at least his future prospects are better than they would have been if he stayed on the C's past this year.

If Houston would have taken Baby/Nate for Battier and Brad Miller that trade would have been twice as good as the one we did.

I think it would have been worse for this year and it would definitely have been worse for the future, with Battier as an unrestricted free agent and the aging and declining Miller locked up for two more years.

I could easily see Doc insisting that if you trade Perkins, you have to get a center back who is better and more durable than Brad Miller.  I think Green is a better fit than Battier for a team that needed a combo forward who could provide offense off the bench.

It would be great if the world worked like this, but I don't see any way where Doc vetoed a trade that would upgrade our team in order to save Perk from going to a bad team. Obviously, he didn't have the same relationship with Big Al, Gomes, etc, but he sent them all packing to the lowly Timberwolves.
