It's late, about 2:30 am here on the east coast...my mind is just wandering..

So, if Kobe Bryant played for the Celtics, would any of you guys/girls take a different tone or feeling towards him?

Talent-wise, he has game and that can not be denied, no matter how much dislike you have towards him.  However, most people, I believe, tend to get ticked off more-so at his persona, the way he tends to carry himself.

Suppose he was acting the same exact way, but helping the Celtics' cause?  Would that change anything for you??

In reverse....
Remember when Pierce made those comments, whether in jest or being serious, about being the best player in the world after the '08 championship?  Suppose he said that as a member of the LA Lakers & Kobe was on Boston?  Would you dislike Paul for that and find yourself defending Kobe's game?

Just something I was thinking about.

Might well depend if it was before or after certain events in 2003...

No. But as with Sheed, I'd have to cheer for him, (talk about swallowing my pride ... that would be the ultimate example). :P

Kobe is a POS. I used to like him and even bought his shoes... Yet when he called Shaq out to ESPN for his dealings with women, well it was beyond sleezy because he was trying to defer eagle colorado attention to whatever Shaq did on the road. Even more crazy was that was his teammate at the time and Gary Payton and Karl Malone came over that year trying to win a ring.

Also don't care what anyone sais... Kobe booted Shaq out of town bc he cared more about getting the credit for winning then just plain winning. Being Robin on a championship team wasn't good enough. It made me sick that he put himself above winning like that.

It's also funny he tries to act like he could hang with MJ. MJ played in an era without touch fouls and with hand checking and the Jordan Rules. Kobe plays in a soft era. He is the shadow of Michael Jordan and will always be but its pathetic how chasing the ghost of MJ has consumed him..

Seriously this guy is pathetic. He has nothing but the game and he will bc of that play too long and be a retread before it is all said and done, looking like a guy who cant hang at all with the last generation he plays against before he is FORCED to retire.

I don't know. If it was from the start and not from a trade then it's possible. I like Pierce when just about everyone I know hates him. Perhaps it's just because it's a Celtic.

I'll say this about Kobe, I didn't like him from the start. He was a kid who a team had to take a chance on by drafting and he still refused to play for Charlotte. That kind of told me what kind of person he was from the start.

TP for the thread idea, I was thinking about this when commenting on the "real fans" fanpost.

I'd be supporting him if he was in green, in any case. Liking him is a different thing.

If he was drafted by the Celtics and played for them, I guess he wouldn't do this "I'm like Mike" stuff. He would still be a cocky ballhog, probably, and he would raise a love-hate feeling over the Celtic Nation, in a 'Toine way. But if he achieved to win a ring in green, there's no doubt we would love him.

In a totally different scenario, if he came here next season, I couldn't compare it to when Sheed signed with the Celtics. Sheed never played for the Lakers, and that's enough for me. I dislike Kobe more than any other player in the League, but I'd be supporting him to help the Celtics to win. If he came here in a trade, though, we would be asking for Danny's head every 3 hours here.

I loathe Kobe more than almost any figure in media. It's not even that I root for the C's. You won't see me say he isn't a master of clutch and determination and his skills aren't epic. It's not even his crass, condescending attitude that never waivers even when he wins; that just compounds it. It comes down to that he would never sacrifice like the Big Three have. He does when he's feeling charitable and tries to pass it off like he'd do whatever was needed to win; he'll do what it takes so long as he's the hero. When he's bricking 20/22 shots in Game 7 and clearly is being shut down he doesn't go to Gasol. Gasol gets those boards and bails him out. Don't for one second think that it doesn't tear  him up that Gasol is the true MVP. And that's why he sucks.

Pierce was in the same class of volume offense and clutchdom. He didn't refuse to play because he wouldn't have the numbers and he wouldn't be the sole reason for winning. He's effeceint, he rebounds, he's clutch and he's all about the team. Kobe's brand of ball (and really the current generation of Lakers) is to do the complete opposite and pass it off as such. He's a blackhole disguised as something else with all the sheer talent he's been surrounded with. Pierce isn't infallible, but he is so much more respectable. So in the hypothetical scenario I'd be too disgusted to enjoy any of it.

I root for everyone wearing Celtics green.  I don't necessarily like them (Blount, Gin Baker after he fell off the wagon, Michael Smith for playing like crap and not being worth that high a pick, etc...).  If they're likable when they're here, I'll root for them even after they leave (Perk, Nate, Delonte, TA, Big Al, Toine, etc..) but if they're scumbags (like Blount) then good riddance.

In short, yes.

If he had spent his career as a Celtic, there would likely be additional banners on the wall.  After accomplishing that, it would be hard to say that I didn't like him.
Celtics fan for life.
