Outside of Shaq and Perkins I cant recall us having anyone on this team who will give up a hard foul and enforce the "no layup rule"

Weve been the recipient of dunkfests ever since Perkins went out. For a bunch of guys who claim they have "toughness" we sure dont see them back any of that talk up on the court.

You would think they would get a little p---ed being dunked on constantly yet refuse to hard foul anyone.

Man, I miss Shaq and JO. Im starting to see cracks in the C's reputation, I really think they might be a mentally soft and fragile team when push comes to shove. Perkins/Shaq are really proving how valuable they were, a strong, enforcer type at the center spot was the backbone of this team, without it our defense crumbles as well as our swagger.

I havent seen this team play like Celtics since Shaq went out. When he was playing they had a swagger about them that oozed confidence and they looked unstoppable.

Right now they look incredibly weak, and Ray, KG and Pierce look like shells of their former selves.

But they're better offensively darn it all.

In tangentially related news this week Jake Gyllenhall traded what was left of his manhood for a better wardrobe.

You don't really respect him, but he looks really good

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'm trying to see your point, but the fact is the team has continued to win despite every obstacle put in their path- our record is miles better than last years.
For our team to win and stay on top of the east like has done so this year- that's the sign of a team of warriors.
Although in your eyes ray and paul look like 'shadows of their former self', they are both having better years than last year in nearly every category and have consistently been there when it's mattered.
Think about the meltdown we had this time (and earlier) last year.
Every team goes through rough patches but when it comes time for the playoffs this team is going to be rested, drilled, defensively minded and bascially effen unstoppable!
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Of course this team is tough. At least as long as KG is on the floor. It's pretty tough to give "hard fouls" in the NBA these days unless you enjoy being fined. As for Ray, KG and Pierce looking "like shells of their former selves," I don't get to watch as many regular season games as I'd like because I live out of market, so I haven't seen the Cs too much lately, but that's awfully hard to believe. Maybe you could say the team is in a slump, but that happens over the course of a season.

Seriously though, you can't even think back to last year? This team was having way worse of a regular season and still worked it out in the playoffs. We get that you don't like the Perkins trade. That's fine, I miss Perk too, and only time will tell if it was the right move.

It's time to stop making the same posts with the same negative points. I respect your opinion, but not the need to incessantly repeat it. Based on his track record, I see no reason not to give Danny the benefit of the doubt and see how this year plays out before judging too much. You can disagree with the trade, but at a certain point you just gotta move on.

Since KG and Krstic were the only bigs the last couple of games, Doc didn't want them to defend so aggressively. Let's see how our interior defense is when there's actual healthy depth. Even BBD coming back should help.

I get your point, and no, outside of Perkins, no one one this current team has tended to give hard fouls when they are necessary - and to be honest I hate it.

The Celtics of the 80's would lay someone out if they got whacked on the other end. And I don't buy that "it's hard to give hard fouls in today's game". You can easily do it without getting a tech, it's simply knowing the difference between dirty and hard. Raking a guy's arms very hard will not get you a tech, setting a very nasty pick will not get you a tech, etc.

I'v ethought this team should have laid out alot more guys over the years but they NEVER do it. It's a mistake. But Doc doesn't coach that and he says as much.

I disagree, if my guys are getting whacked I want someone from the other side bleeding, period.

Bottom line also is that the guys we used to have who would give some decent shots to players, basically Posey, TAllen, Perkins and Powe, are all gone.

Shaq seems very willing to hit people pretty hard and JO is a cheap shot artist with some weight so it will help when they get back.

Big Baby should take a much more active role in this area but he's a cupcake in this regard - too nice. If you could put Powe's head on Big Baby, not many teams in the league would mess with us, but unfortunately Big baby is a gentle giant.

The role of JO and Shaq when they come back will be to lay people out. It will help everyone else run around and do other things like score.

Delonte will also help, after Shaq and JO, he's the next toughest guy on the team as far as getting after someone with a good hard foul. Delonte has a little mean streak in him and that's a good thing.

I still like the trade overall but it will take time.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Shaq, but he's in a break in case of play-offs glass right now.

Doc said in a post game conference that he told the bigs not to get into foul trouble and to avoid contact just because we'd run out of players if they did. That explains a lot of the softness right now.

Bah, I want someone to occasionally give hard fouls when they aren't necessary.  Hopefully, Rondo will step it up in the playoffs and smack someone like he did Brad Miller.

sadly the nba has changed.  players are fearful of giving "hard fouls" bc they are worried about getting flagrant fouls, techs, or suspensions.  i miss the 80s

Toughness has nothing to do with giving hard fouls.

can you count KG's screen on mike miller as a hard foul? :P

I'd like to see shaq get put a hard foul on d-fish and get a flagrant, would be worth it.
Andy Bernard doesnt lose constests. He wins them, or he quits them because they're unfair.
