I just read that Austin Rivers (Doc's son) has won the high school player of the year. This is pretty interesting to me, seeing that ultimately he will be drafted after he is done with college (If he truly is a stud, he may come out after a year or two.) So that leads me to ask whether or not this will effect Doc's status with the Celts after his son is drafted. Doc has already hinted at leaving the team so that he can spend more time with his family. If his son was drafted to another team, would he still want to coach the Celtics... In an even more bizarre scenario, what if Austin is somehow drafted by the Celtics. Has there ever been a situation where a coach had his son on his team in the NBA? Is this something the Celtics would want? I'm not sure if that would even be good or bad for the team. I guess it could help Doc around longer too.

Obviously this all just talk on my end and all of this is at least a year away from happening, but it got me curious as to how Docs son's NBA career will effect his coaching career

Austin Rivers is expected to be drafted #1 overall in 2012.  There's no way that pick belongs to the Celtics, unless things go really south for this franchise next year.  Point being, I don't think we have to worry about Doc coaching his son.

i think coby carl played for the nuggetts.. but who knows how long austin will be in college for. I would definetly take this kid in a heartbat he looks pretty promising. he has upside to be a great scorer.

Austin Rivers will NOT be the #1 pick in 2012.  If either John Henson, Jared Sullinger, Kyrie Irving, Harrison Barnes, Derek Williams, or John Selby stays, he will be behind him.

Plus you forget, he is going to Duke a school that has a reputation of not developing players skills sets for the NBA.

I expect Rivers to be about the same as he is now whenever he comes out.

Only chance the Celtics have at getting him is if he spends at least two years in College, and comes out in the 2013, or beyond. And, the Celtics are a lottery team. The kids a lottery pick, there's no doubt about it. He's not going to fall even into the teens, never mind. It's extremely unlikely the Celtics will be picking anywhere near close enough to grab him. Unless they trade up at some point, it's not happening.

The only way to bring Rivers here is to package our own, Clippers 2012 pick and some prospect ala Avery Bradley to some team for his rights

I wouldn't be surprised if Austin Rivers does spend at least two years in college.  He certainly doesn't need to jump for the money considering his dad has a pretty nice income, and also can't you see both Coach K and Doc advising him to stay at least two years to not only develop but also just to have fun in college.

Sure it sounds crazy to pass up being the number one pick but if anyone is in a position to it, Austin Rivers will be.

That wouldn't even come close... It would need to be the 2012 pick and Rondo at least. This kid is going to be a star.

Doubt that, no team would trade (or expect any other team to trade) a championship caliber, 2 time all star, MVP buzz point guard for anything coming out of the draft, ever.

It may take more than Bradley, maybe, but maybe not. I mean look at it this way, if a team is set at their guard positions (Rivers has excellent range and handle, and enough size that he really could play either PG or SG, all depends on how he develops in the next couple years) but has a high pick in the draft and could get him, why wouldn't they move that pick for a couple of solid pieces, and a small slide down the draft board.

Moving out of the lottery, and grabbing a solid player then drafting another who meets more of your need, plus maybe an extra 2nd round pick is a smart play.

If Rondo is not content with his buddies departure, this might not be too unrealistic. I can see Rondo shipped off for maybe the #1, and a couple of players and picks switching hands. Rondo has more value that the #1 pick because it has not a proven player but I would risk it.

Think a Rivers, Howard would look lovely in Green. Remember that Rivers lives in Orlando and Austin plays there. I think communication has been open between all parties.

Rivers destroying Lebron, this could become a great rivalry for at least a decade or more.

love Doc's son too, but lets not get too ahead of ourselves. he has yet to hit a college, let alone a nba court. so this is all speculation as of right now (him being a star, destroying bron and whatnot) lets not forget about sebastian telfair....but I'm sure he will do well in the league.
