RondoHondo thanks for understanding the point I was making. You see this whole Perk thing exactly how I intended. Roy you also seem to get the point I intended to deliver.

They are somewhat related are they not? In 07 we gave up alot to gain a title only to get every asset we gave away back and helping us now in 11. Ok we gave away Perk but look deeper and you will see Danny is a mastermind.

completely agree

It seems like people on here who are against trading Perk can't acknowledge that we have every player/pick back from the first Ray Allen trade( besides Wally who is retired)

This is how the rosters look 2 years later

What Boston got from Sea OKC: Ray Allen, BBD, Jeff Green, D West,Kristic clippers 1st round pick

What OKC got from Boston: Perk, Nate

We still have Ray Allen and BBD from the 1st trade and now we have Delonte West and Green on the roster( the main pieces going to seattle/OKC in the first trade)

And we won the 08 title, we don't have to give it back  ;)

I am not saying this is Danny's master plan or something, but you can't ignore the fact that in the end we basically gave up Perk and Nate for  Ray Allen, BBD, Jeff Green, D West,Kristic clippers 1st round pick

Do people remember this, at all?

We already had Jeff Green on our team.  We already had Delonte West, too.  If we're re-doing 2008 through 2010, then Jeff Green and Delonte West need to be left out.

why do you keep bringing this up? We had to trade them away to acquire Ray and BBD , how did we have them on our roster?  Why would they be left out if they were the main pieces okc got back for Ray Allen and BBD ?

I am really trying to understand this, not trying to give you a hard time

Because if the Celtics are trading Perk "instead" of Green and West, then they are not part of the incoming trade.

The argument is basically "Danny turned 2008 garbage into 2011 gold", right?  I mean, not exactly, but we're having fun seeing what Danny was able to pull off.

If that's the case, I think you need to compare what Danny started with, and see what he ended up with.

2008 (players involved in trade):  Jeff Green, Delonte West, Wally for Ray Allen, Big Baby

2010 (players involved in trade):  Perk, Nate for Jeff Green, Nenad Krstic

You then cross out the guys who we already had (because you wouldn't trade for a player you already had):

2008 (players involved in trade):  Jeff Green, Delonte West, Wally for Ray Allen, Big Baby

2010 (players involved in trade):  Perk, Nate for Jeff Green, Nenad Krstic

What you're left with is Wally + Perk + Nate for Ray Allen, Biby Baby, and Nenad Krstic

ok fair enough, but I think being able to keep Green and West is a big part of the whole situation( being able to keep the # 5 pick overall)

why are we still doing this? i suspect almost all of us had lots of love for perkins and hated to see him traded from an emotional view. we don't need to keep trashing him or making it seem like we got HoFers in return. the trade was a good one for both teams. we thought we needed more help at the 3 (i think that was correct) and could spare our 5 (i also think this makes sense given our record without perk this year). i think OKC badly needed a bruiser at their 5 and could spare a very good 3. this is a trade that makes sense for both sides, given their assessments of their strengths and weaknesses. will it ultimately work out? who knows...there is lots of uncertainty, especially considering perk's health. but for goodness sakes, can we please stop trashing perk to feel better about the trade, or making him out to be an all-star to feel worse about the trade (or do the same to green and kristic)?

Of course, but who knows if history would have worked that way?

Maybe we would have lost West as a free agent, or would have had to use him in another trade to get a center.

There just is so much that could have changed that it is really tough to look at this rationally.

Can we just end it with the Kendrick Perkins talk?

The guy was an undersized unathletic one-dementional defensive role player.

I wish him luck in OKC, but any big body thats 6'10 or taller and knows how to play decent defense can replace Perkins role on this team.

You do understand that nobody on this roster besides KG and Shaq, who can't stay on the floor, fits that description though, right?

Actually, only one thing will "kill the Perkins trade bitterness forever"

-->winning the title this year.

You underestimate the bloggers here. Or overestimate them. Not sure which. But winning a title will slow the complaints, it won't stop them. We're not that far removed from our last "bring back Antoine" post.

I am thinking about starting a "Bring back Dino" thread.

I think they've instituted a strict no smoking policy at the Garden, so that train has pretty much left the station.

Well then there will have to be a "Bring back smoking in the Garden" follow up thread.

  Cigars, at least.

RondoHondo some just don't want to understand what we apparently see what happened in the overall scheme of things. But we basically got alot from Seattle/OKC organization and all they have to show now for their building of the future in the original trade is Perk. We got alot & a high pick. And never once have I trashed EVER I loved that Bull (Guy). Look it up, but I'm just calling the overall moves how I see them point blank...

Interesting subquestion:

Would you trade Kendrick Perkins for Ray Allen?

Interesting subquestion:

Would you trade Kendrick Perkins for Ray Allen?

Good question. Back then Perkins had absolutely no value.

His value was earned when we lost game 7 and he immediately became the Celtics best player and key to winning a title.

All day everyday! Can't Start a franchise with Perkins. Milwaukee & Seattle did with Ray.

Gun point, you know exactly what Kenrick Perkins becomes - and you can only take one player going forward in 2008, would you select Perkins or Ray-Ray?

In this scenario the rest of the cast would stay (relatively) the same as it did. I think I'd take Perkins.
