Yeah you guys really missed the point I was making. I was only using people who involved in the Seattle, Boston organizations at that time in 07' and part of the original deal. Guess that was overlooked. Therefore I didn't use Nate or Kristic. Guess you guys are just hard up on Perkins leaving to miss such a easy point.

Even if you totally ignore the '08 - '10 seasons, though, Jeff Green can't be called somebody we got from Seattle, can he?  That #5 pick was ours, not Seattle's.

Actually, only one thing will "kill the Perkins trade bitterness forever"

-->winning the title this year.

anything short of that will result in endless debate as to whether we'd have won without making the deal

So the Celtics are giving up the '08 title for a rookie SF to be third on the depth chart and not having a starting C that was a key (along with KG) of shutting down the big men of the Lakers?

Yeah, not good.

Yeah, I hate these things (just like I hate talking about "rumored" trades that never happened).  There are so many variables that can change history in them, and they just aren't based in reality.

Honestly, I don't think we need to see this to understand the value we got in the Perk trade.  I think it was pretty evident that the value went in the C's favor.  The question that most people who don't like the trade seems to have is whether they sacrificed a chance at a title in the small window they have for "value" that may not pay off until this team is no longer a contender.  And no matter how good the value was, I don't think that question can be answered until we see how the playoffs play out.

You summed up why I don't like the trade.

I have nothing against the talent of Green.  I like him as a player and have no issue with him being on the Celtics.

I am just worried about the big man situation come playoff time.  The Celtics are not hoping at least one of two big men is healthy during the playoffs vs. one of three.  I liked the odds better when there were three.  (Yes, the Celtics have other big men.  But they are the jumpshooting non intimidating on defense type.. Except KG who is strictly a PF)

Yeah, I personally have more faith in the Oneals coming back, as well as in Krstic being a major contributor, but part of that may not be completely rational (mostly just the vibe I get based on how they have handled their situations the entire year), but I completely understand that point of view.  I also do not think Perkins was nearly as important as others think, and I will never be swayed of that opinion. And most importantly, I know that there is nothing that will change yours, or anyone elses mind, who has those worries, until they see it actually happen.

You underestimate the bloggers here. Or overestimate them. Not sure which. But winning a title will slow the complaints, it won't stop them. We're not that far removed from our last "bring back Antoine" post.

Do you guys understand we don't lose a title with this thread? I'm just stating this is what we got into return for Perkins today in 11'. We don't have to cash in our 08' title, bit strangely I feel some are trying not to understand that. So funny so of you being difficult.

I am thinking about starting a "Bring back Dino" thread.

Then why are you trying to connect it to a trade that help bring a title in 08?

If they are related, then it effects the past three seasons.

If they are not related, that is the point of this idea?

They are somewhat related are they not? In 07 we gave up alot to gain a title only to get every asset we gave away back and helping us now in 11. Ok we gave away Perk but look deeper and you will see Danny is a mastermind.

I think they've instituted a strict no smoking policy at the Garden, so that train has pretty much left the station.

There are two ways to look at something like this:

1.  Sure, I understand the two trades are really unconnected, but they involved some of the players and it's fun to play around with what the trades look like in hindsight.  Oh, and Danny should make more trades with Sam Presti, because we're 2-for-2 now; or

2.  Danny is a genius.  He probably had a good idea in 2008 that when he made the trades, he'd be able to reacquire some of the guys we gave up.  It was all part of the plan.

To me, option #1 can be a fun time waster, if you don't take things too seriously.  Option #2, on the other hand, just seems a little out of touch with reality to me.  I honestly can't tell which direction you're leaning toward, but assuming it's #1, I see where you're coming from (but you do need to "balance" the trade -- like I said, we didn't trade for Jeff Green, since he was ours to begin with).

completely agree

It seems like people on here who are against trading Perk can't acknowledge that we have every player/pick back from the first Ray Allen trade( besides Wally who is retired)

This is how the rosters look 2 years later

What Boston got from Sea OKC: Ray Allen, BBD, Jeff Green, D West,Kristic clippers 1st round pick

What OKC got from Boston: Perk, Nate

We still have Ray Allen and BBD from the 1st trade and now we have Delonte West and Green on the roster( the main pieces going to seattle/OKC in the first trade)

And we won the 08 title, we don't have to give it back  ;)

I am not saying this is Danny's master plan or something, but you can't ignore the fact that in the end we basically gave up Perk and Nate for  Ray Allen, BBD, Jeff Green, D West,Kristic clippers 1st round pick

Well then there will have to be a "Bring back smoking in the Garden" follow up thread.

Do people remember this, at all?

We already had Jeff Green on our team.  We already had Delonte West, too.  If we're re-doing 2008 through 2010, then Jeff Green and Delonte West need to be left out.

Anyway, I don't think that being for or against the trade has anything to do with somebody's reaction to this thread, since this thread has nothing to do with the actual trade.  That's why you've got multiple members who were big fans of the trade critiquing the reasoning here.

Can we just end it with the Kendrick Perkins talk?

The guy was an undersized unathletic one-dementional defensive role player.

I wish him luck in OKC, but any big body thats 6'10 or taller and knows how to play decent defense can replace Perkins role on this team.
