  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Lebron and Wade are scoring 30 points each(at least ) and the heat are on a downward spiral.
Meanwhile chicago has quietly slipped into second place.
I would like an honest opinion from forum members who watch ALL nba teams. I watch every heat game and every bulls game (on top of all the celts games of course  ;D )
I feel like wade is taking away alot from lebrons chances and rose and the bulls are staying relatively consistent.
If the MVP is decided by the coaches and media... is it rose or lebron at this stage?

I think Rose is a safe bet for MVP.  Nowitzki could be another candidate IMO, and Lebron is still viable.  It's not Lebron's fault that his teammates generally stink, and the Heat, despite their troubles, are still a high seed for the playoffs.

for me, it's Rose. he's been unbelievable this year. Lebron's been good too, but he doesn't show up when his team needs him most (end of close games). I haven't watched all their games, but i've watched a fair share of Heat and Bulls games (though i missed that recent HeatvBulls game) and for me, Rose is the MVP.

If you are only considering LBaby and DRose as MVP candidates, then you have to lean towards Rose.....only just though.

They have both had outstanding years, but i think Rose has garnered more attention due to the Bulls record.

I feel Dwight Howard should be the MVP.  I have always felt that you need to look at what record a team would have should that player not be in that team, and then you have your MVP.

You take Dwight off the Magic and they would be lucky to win 20-25 games.  You take LBJ or DRose off their teams and they lose between 10-15 games max.

  • Rondo = Good
It seems that everybody has already anointed Derrick Rose the MVP.

Although he has largely carried the Bulls, it's frustrating to me that he's being quickly crowned the MVP.  I might not even rank him as a top 5 player in the league, and yet he's on pace to win the MVP award?  Seems silly to me.  The Bulls have won as much because of their great team defense than as a result of Rose's offensive abilities.  He's not even a particularly spectacular passer or defender.  He's a better shooting version of Russell Westbrook.  I'd rather have Deron Williams or Chris Paul, to be honest.

The only reason Rose is the front runner is because the best players in the league are on teams with better second fiddles (Gasol, Wade, any of the Celtics' Big 4, etc) or on teams that are good but not amazing because of lack of supporting cast (Howard).

Lebron should get the award simply because he regularly puts up ridiculous numbers and does almost everything for a team with basically no support aside from Wade and occasionally Chris Bosh.  That the Heat are even a pretty darn good team at all is a testament to how ridiculously good LeBron is.  At the end of the day, he's also the best player on the planet.

Barring LeBron, though, I'd give the award to Dwight Howard.  The Magic wouldn't even be relevant without him.  They'd be one of the worse teams in the league, in fact.

Drose is worthy, LeBron is not this year.   I think Dwight should be in the any talk.  Without him Orlando is horrible.

I find it strange to consider Lebron for MPV this year. They were supposed to challenge the Bulls regular season record(72-10) this season and look what happened. They allready lost 21 games so far. This ofcourse isn't just Lebrons fault but it's quite clear the Heat is underachieving while the Bulls are doing better than expected. So if it's a two horse race Rose deserves to win!

I dont know if DRose is more worthy?  What does make him more worthy considering his supporting cast is superior to LBaby.

Also, Roses strong suit would definately be his ability to score.  When you consider that he takes over 20 shots per game to average just under 25 ppg, it really isnt all that impressive.

I'd like to see Dirk Nowitzki get it ahead of Derrick Rose. He is having a great season for Dallas.

Dwight Howard has been on a tear for the last two months too.

I have Dwight Howard as the MVP right now, Dirk second, and Rose third.

It's got to be Howard in my opinion.  I'm a huge Dirk guy, but I don't think they are on the same level this year.  Plus Dirk missed a chunk with injuries.

I think people are taking Howard for granted; probably because he hasn't changed teams and the team he is on isn't quite as good as it has been the last few years.  But Howard has been more dominant than any player in the league.  He's having a monster year.

alot of this is true, but i think you could also argue that the bulls wouldn't be anything without derrek rose.
They have the record that they do because basically carried them on his back while boozer was injured and whilst noah was injured.

my main question is..who would the coaches and media vote for when it really comes down to it?
I feel like Rose is the 'anti villain' to lebron as far as the media goes. But the media love to talk about the heat.
I can also see alot of coaches liking rose because of his 'team first' mentality and with alot of old school players currently coaching in the NBA, his silent but lethal style of simply getting the job done is HUGE in coaches eyes.
With that being said though, I wonder if coaches think 'darn it we have to play lebron in 2 days, how are we gonna stop this monster?'.
i'm really trying to work out which way the VOTERS will lean...

He is going to get it, because the media and press and everyone else has pretty much made their mind up on that a while ago...And he is playing great, but I think it will be one the most forgettable seasons for an MVP, and that other pieces havent been getting the credit in Chicago.
Thibodeau, clear coach of the year in my opinion
Deng, having the best season of his career
Yes Noah and Boozer both have been hurt but one of them has always been in the lineup.
Rose is flashy and putting up good numbers, humble kid..but I would give it to Dwight, Dirk, or even Kobe before this kid

IMO Tom Thibs should get the MVP ahead of Rose (if that were possible).  I like the idea of Dwight Howard as MVP ahead of Rose, and like I mentioned earlier I think Dirk should definitely be in the talks too.

ESPN actually had a good mvp candidacy article recently comparing Rose & Lebron.  The conclusion was basically that Tom Thibideau is the biggest reason Chicago is winning, and that Lebron's effect on a team is enormous compared to Rose.

I don't think anyone has truly separated himself from the pack at this stage.

Next month is going to be huge for the MVP race.
