This would have been his last year as a celtic right? Considering how well he's playing and that we're probably the favorites to win it.. He could have gotten a max contract somewhere right, I mean, somewhere... even if it was a crap team, like NYK or NJN...

If Bosh, Amare, Melo, Deron, CP3 etc etc can all get max contracts, why not Rondo?
Andy Bernard doesnt lose constests. He wins them, or he quits them because they're unfair.

Well, he'd certainly deserve a max contract based on his value, but I'm not so sure he'd get many offers in that range.

He is a [layer who shines on a good team. He isn't flashy enough to sell tickets or a good enough scorer to carry a bad team. And how many good/great teams are in need of a great PG AND have the cap space to offer a max contract? Few if any.

He'd get paid regardless, but you see the crazy contracts to inferior players (Rudy Gay, Joe Johnson) given by their teams, not new ones.

In Gay's and JJ's case, they overpaid as I don't think their were any real bidders (or their talent/impact warrants their paychecks, but that's another story). Would the C's blatantly overpay Rondo to keep him? Maybe, but I doubt it. Ainge did the smart thing and wrapped him up when they did, probably saving about $15 million over the next 5 years.

I'll give you one reason why Rondo won't get (and don't deserve) a max contract - HE CAN'T SHOOT!
There are a lot of overpaid players (like joe johnson) but i think 9-11 M for Rondo is just adequate. If we didn't re-sign him, i think he would've gotten the same offer from other teams.

Rondo Max Deal: Oxymoron

When it comes to Point-Guard NBA is stingy. In All of the NBA, only 2 Point-Guards currenly have max deals (correct me if i'm wrong) CP3 and Deron Williams. Chris Paul was numero uno when he signed the deal.

But if the Cetics had Won the Finals and Rajon Rondo Won the Finals MVP is the only scenario a team would possibly splurge on Rondo. Even then you can't avoid but notice his glaring black hole in his game. I do believe Rondo would've gotten a higher deal in the open market but nothing close to Max Deal. Realistically something similar to Steve Nash/Tony Parker ~$12-$13.5 million

He'd get a max contract because there is one thing he can do that many PGs can't. He can PASS. He can control an offense. Players want to play with him. He can play defense.

The Knicks would give him a MAX deal in a second. So you are dead wrong. I thought we tended to overrate Celtic players around here?

Rondo would make any team better. This guy knows offense. With an average Point Guard KG, Pierce, and Allen would be struggling by the 4th quarter gasping for air. With Rondo they barely break a bead. His shooting has been discussed enough. He would get top $$ somewhere and the ball would see nothing but net over and over. For the moment the ball is deferred to the Big 3. If Rondo were a head case he'd be taking 15 mortar shots a game. Instead he's a team case.

Dennis Johnson with his Big 3 won 2 rings with the Celts and wasn't nearly as good as Rondo. Rondo is underpaid. He could have tested the waters but decided to stay a Celtic because he is a Celtic.

If he plays the way he played against the Bucks, he's getting too much. One of his worst games in recent memory.

$12-13.5 mil is close to a max deal.  Parker and Nash were $10-11 mil guys.

And there were no PGs to be found for awhile; a lot of guys like TJ Ford and Jose Calderon.  There are going to be plenty of max PGs in the near future: Rose, Westbrook and probably John Wall are going to get the max treatment, in addition to max extensions for Williams and Paul.

This is probably accurate. TP.

Only in Celtics Blog can one thread be started imploring the Celtics to trade a player,

while another thread started in parallel says the same guy is a bargain and deserves a max deal.

He'd get somewhere in between what he makes now ($10m) and the max; but not the max.  Boston is the only place where Rondo is viewed as a top PG.  Across the rest of the country he is ranked one tier below CP3, D-Rose, and D-Will.

I find it humorous reading some comments such as "Rondo is a PG who can acutally pass".  I guess you've actually never watched CP3 play then.

I haven't heard of one announcer say he's less than top shelf stuff.

Rajon Rondo would have made at least $70-75 million over 5 years as a free agent last summer and he would have had a decent shot at a max contract ($85 mil over 5 yrs).

He would surely be a max contract player if he was a free agent this summer.

I think this board is one of the few places he isn't.

12-13.5 is no where near a max deal.
