Just an example:
LA gets Howard and JJ Redick
Orlando gets Bynum and Odom
That works...its just an example though...but LA can make it work. Money is not going to be a problem for Dwight...he will get a max contract. Boston can't beat LA's weather, glamour and the chance to be a star in a city like LA (bigger market).
Kobe, Pau and Howard...that's a pretty good core...even if Kobe loses a step or two, he'll still be good....and Jerry Buss has a way of taking care of his stars...ugh..sleazebag.
Of course the Lakers could make it work on the trade machine, but why would the Magic do that?
Bynum is half the player Howard is, but he'd likely command just as high of a salary (the wonder of the "max" contract). He's not going to be the best player on a championship team. In fact, he hasn't even been the 3rd best player in Lakers' three consecutive finals appearances. He's a rich man's Brendan Haywood with major health question marks.
Orlando would be better off tanking for lottery picks, clearing cap space and taking advantage of their highly attractive location (warm weather, no state taxes, wealthy ownership willing to spend to contend) than locking themselves into Bynum at Howard-level money.
