I find it amazing that people are saying they believe Danny Ainge when he said he thought we couldn't afford Perk, and then turn around and say Dwight Howard is option 1A and then say Danny never lied and I'm just paranoid and looking for attention or something

I picked Krstic.  I mean he's a starter in this league

Nice agenda you got there. It's getting tired. Again with the wild comparisons. Would you rather have Perkins or Howard? If Ainge signed Perkins to a long-term deal there's no way the Celtics go after Howard. I just thank God that you're not the GM.
If we don't have the money to sign Perk then we don't have it to sign Howard.

Resigning a player and signing a player from free agency is totally different. Ainge didn't want to resign Perkins because that money can be spent more wisely. Perkins was not a core player and not a future core player so he wasn't resigned. With Garnett's and Allen's money coming off the books after 2012 the Celtics will have plenty of money to throw around.

Having the money to re-sign Perk in the off-season has nothing to do with Howard being a FA in 2012. Completely different cap situations.

oh please, the guy goes into every thread and posts the exact same thing and he clearly has no knowledge of how salaries work in the NBA, but that doesn't stop him. Try reading what other posters say , take it in, think about it, you might be able to learn something about why we couldn't afford Perk( it's not being financially responsible to keep him ) and will be in the running for Howard. Instead he just pushes forth with this Perk nonsense.

::) At least I don't go into every thread with a noticeable agenda and ruin the thread. That's all I'm going to say.

yes we do you are clueless on this topic

Please, for the love of god...no more Perkins threads or attempting to hijack this into a thread of Danny lying to us. There is a big difference between paying a core player 20 million and paying a defensive minded role player almost half of that. Ainge was right in saying we couldn't afford Perk because we need to budget that money to get an elite talent to replace KG/Ray/PP to go with the next generation. I mean why is this concept so hard to understand?! Ainge also won't overpay for BBD who is probably looking for 7+ a season in Free Agency.

I'm surprised that Nene hasn't received more love in this thread. Hes a rebounding machine and is solid offensively. Yes hes 29 but hes by all accounts in great shape.

Howard must be the priority. Howard and Rondo/Deron Williams/Chris Paul. If that fails, then it's time to move on. But it needs to be tried.

Next season, the same center by committee there is now.

Danny could rob multiple banks and throw wads of cash at Howard...he still won't come here.

Howard will either resign with Orlando or go to LA.

And at this time last year, #6 jersey's were on back order at the NBA store in Madison Square Garden (Obviously not really, but you get my point) we don't know until all the pieces are in place. Perhaps the C's trade for Howard (They have a lot of chips now with Green and Draft Picks), perhaps Bynum progresses to the point that the Lakers feel as if they don't need to bid on Dwight.

LA won't have the cap room to sign Howard unless they dump Bynum's contract on someone. Even then I don't believe they'll have enough cap space.

Edit: Yes, they will. I was looking at the incorrect payroll year.

Perk's and Nate's salary was taken up by Jeff Green and Krstic.  Green isn't resigning for free. Neither is Krstic. Neither is BBD. And D Howard is going to cost a heck of a lot of money.
People are throwing out 9 mill for Perk.  Perk didn't go to college, but he could probably do some basic math. Knowing Rondo makes $11 there was no way he was going to go for $9, especially not with a bad knee.
People are making the assumption that because Perk got a certain amount from the Thunder that's what it would have taken us and that nobody would have been able to sit with him and say "If we pay you this much we won't be able to get a Howard or whatnot and you'll never win another ring".
These are bad assumptions.

You know what, the only way they could get Howard would be through a S&T with Bynum involved. I'm getting confused with the maximum NBA cap.

If we don't have the money to sign Perk then we don't have it to sign Howard.

We don't have the money to sign both (or Perk and a star at another position) at the price they'd command. We didn't give up Perk because we were too cheap to spend money on him.  We gave him up because we didn't want to lock up our cap space on him.

Go elsewhere with the Perkins talk. There's a thread there for it. He's not going to be the future center here (thread title - look at it) so there's no reason to even bring his name up.
