Jeff Green's game reminds me of Reggie Lewis'

I know that we've only seen Green play 1 good game (against a poor defense), and I know that he's not as good yet as Reggie Lewis ever was.

But as I watched him play I saw some definite similarities.  His mid-rage game is similar, the way he runs the floor, and the way he plays defense.  I can't put a finger on exactly why I think this, but does anyone else feel this way?

Reggie Lewis was an elite defender.  Green isn't there yet, and realistically will probably never be at Reggie's level.  Few were.

I've been thinking the same thing for a few days.  Young and athletic with a good mid-range game and ability to finish around the hoop.  Green is a bit bigger (6'9" vs. 6'7" for Reggie).

Green of course is taller and stronger than either of those guys, but Reggie was a real shooter, which Green probably isn't so much.  Green's still younger than Reggie was for his one All-Star appearance.  Also still younger than Pierce was for his first All-Star game.

Actually, I think of Green so far as a taller, faster, more athletic but less efficiently scoring version of Paul Pierce.  Both have lots of skills, great bulk for the 3 position, and varied ways of racking up points.

Next year could be very interesting.

Build-wise, I could see that.

Reggie was more gifted offensively and a heckuva defender. I'm not quite sure Green is quite at that level (defensively).  Heck, Lewis gave Jordan fits.

Odom is a much better rebounder, though, and is a lot more efficient offensively.  Green is a little more dynamic than Odom at his current age.

Definitely agree, Roy. He also has a higher ceiling than Lamar, IMO. Reggie was great, but he doesn't have the range that Green has--did Reggie even take any 3's? I'm sure he did, but what was impressive was his uber consistent mid-range game. He'd give Paul Pierce a run for his money with all his step back, fade away and turn around jumpers. Reggie also could never have played the 4, and even though he was long and wiry for his size, deceptively strong, he would probably be worse at defending the 4 than Green is. Roy, I know you don't think he'll be as good as Reggie, but in terms of All-Star appearances, Lewis had 1, and I think we may see Green earn at least 1 spot in his career, if not more.

No one ever has questioned Lamar Odom's talent, they've always questioned his heart and his ability to take the game seriously. Jeff Green is more of a physical scoring talent than him though, and obviously has more upside as hes younger and hasn't ended his development stage as of yet. Truth be told when the trade went through, that's the first comparison to an NBA player that I could make with Jeff Green. Although as stated in this thread, Odom is a better rebounder.

Reggie was great but he wasn't a lockdown defender. He used his length to block shots. He was a great outside shooter who rarely took threes. I've read that the summer he died, he was working on adding the 3 to his game. His game was mainly stopping on the dime off the dribble and pulling up for the jumper, with a little slashing to the basket and post ups mixed in.

Odom is much more of a playmaker and also a much better rebounder than Green. I know its early, but I don't thik Green has an assist yet. However, like Odom, he is a solid, well-rounded player.

I am not a huge fan of Green's upside, meaning I don't see all-star potential, but I think he can be a very good bench player who plays alot of minutes. Hopefully I'm wrong and he'll be better than that.
