Jeff - you are assuming we want the #11 pick that year.

I'm actually hoping DA just got this to stash until 2016 or (more likely) use as trade bait.

The way I think of it is:

1. If we haven't gotten the pick by 2016, we get the pick that year no matter what.

2. Otherwise we get a pick the first year the Clips pick outside the top 10 before then.

3. If we get a pick in 2012 it will be the lower of two between the clips and wolves. (NB: if the wolves pick 11 and the clips pick 7 we don't get a pick.)

fair enough - I'm just glad it isn't this year's pick - weak draft

Curious in 2012, if the minny pick is 7 and the Clip pick is 10. Do we get the minny pick?

Hmm. Avery Bradley was once ranked the best or 2nd best college prospect . Maybe Austin rivers will fall to us? too hopeful?

If his play style bring questions to GM's than maybe his draft value falls. Hopefully he's like Pierce and falls to the 11th even though he was supposed to be a top 3 pick.

I'd be shocked...and if he did, it would probably mean there is something wrong with him.  Rivers is the real deal, and has the complete package of skills and athleticism.  I really do not see him falling too far in the draft.  Bradley on the other hand seems to be a case of an elite athlete, whose ball skills were not nearly developed enough once he got to the college and now pro level, but was just able to dominate in highschool because of that athleticism.

another good reason it could be good to pick in 2016, Blake Griffin could have left as a free agent in 2014 or 15 I think. If he does, that makes the Clippers a high lottery team again. How great would it be if the C's get a top 3 pick in 2016.

I have to give you guys credit, not an ounce of my being can get excited about a 2016 draft pick

Not only that but Blake Griffin could be the 3rd best player on his team by then. How can anyone predict a teams future two years from now never mind 4-5!

Add to that he is the son of a succesful NBA player/coach.  So you have all the physcical skills and athleticism and the mindset to be great.

I will say though, that I would get very excited over a late lottery pick in 2012.  That has potential to be a tremendous draft, given the thread of lockout and potential that a lot of guys could pull out of this years draft.

There's no way we don't get this pick between 2012 and 2015.  A core of Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, Deandre Jordan, and whatever early draft picks, signings, etc. will get them out of the bottom 10 in the league.  Especially in the West that has just been weakened so badly recently from all the trades sending stars out East.  They'll easily leapfrog Denver, Utah, Phoenix, Houston, etc. in 2 years.  Also NO if CP3 leaves.

I would trade our own and Clippers 2012. pick for draft rights to Rivers. Even throw Bradley in a deal. Future of Rondo, Rivers, Green and FA near max player- Celtics contenders for a decade.

Even throw in Bradley?  That just brings a chuckle to me because the kid ain't worth much of anything.

Anyway, I am confused about one thing.  If the Clippers pick fallss in the top 10 in 2012 but the Wolves does not (e.g., 12th), why don't we get the Wolves pick?  Was that just part of the deal?  We get the worst of the twp picks except if the Clippers are in the top 10 we get nothing in 2012?

Question: If the Clippers, for hypothetical purposes, get the number 1 pick in 2012, but the Timberwolves get pick 11 in 2012, do the Celtics get that Minnesota pick?

Not unless it was part of the deal.  As it has been reported, it would only be the Clippers pick.

Quote
2012 first round draft pick from L.A. Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers’ own 2012 first round draft pick to Boston via Oklahoma City (top 10 protected in the 2012 draft, top 10 protected in 2013, top 10 protected in 2014, top 10 protected in 2015 and unprotected in the 2016 Draft). In addition, if the Los Angeles Clippers are required to send their 2012 first round pick pursuant to the above and are also entitled to receive Minnesota’s own 2012 first round draft, then Boston via Oklahoma City shall receive the lesser of the Los Angeles Clippers’ own 2012 first round pick and Minnesota’s own 2012 first round pick. [L.A. Clippers -Oklahoma City, 6/24/2010 and then Boston - Oklahoma City, 2/24/2011]

Apparently its an additional bit of protection just in 2012. So if the Clippers don't owe us a pick (its top 10) then we wont' get Minnesota's.
