Interesting. It would be better to know which players were specifically consulted though. You have to assume KG & cie were but I clearly remember KG saying recently he learned Perk got traded while driving to practice or shootaround the day of the deadline... so why would he be shocked if he knew it could happen?
I'd imagine he was shocked because even if they talked about trading Perkins in abstract, KG didn't imagine Ainge would actually do it.

yea, I'm sure they talk about a lot of moves in abstract terms that never actually materialize, so that would explain the shock of hearing the news

It makes sense but he really sounded like he was genuinely shocked as if he never heard this possibility before.

huge piece of information there, I wonder if any of them talked to Perk about it before it happened

My guess is they talked to the Big 3, 'cause they knew Rondo was too close to the situation.

the big three for sure, I wonder if they skipped Rondo for that reason. They should know that he could get offended

Maybe less offended than if they asked him--and then ignored what he said.

yes, but Rondo is a smart guy, and the person that this trade helps the most is him, both now and in the future

Doesn't mean his judgment might not have been initially clouded, he mightn't have felt comfortable endorsing the shipping out of Perk--or perhaps relaying the discussion to Perk when they didn't want it relayed.  "3 or 4" just seems quite telling to me. With Perk out of the picture and Rondo's continued maturation I bet he's always in on the consults going forward.

yeah this surprises me a bit after seeing the players' reactions.. although KG just said "it was a real tough day to play basketball" while in the midst of a string of double-doubles.  i guess sometimes actions speak louder than words...

I started a thread last week opining that Danny and Doc would not have traded Perk without first consulting with the Big 3. Seems that Doc has vindicated my speculation.

I think there is a difference between understanding the trade and liking a trade.

I have no doubt they talked to Ray, Pierce and KG.  They explained the logic.  The three accepted the logic and gave the trade their "blessing"  They were  just not happy about it.

I remember Woj tweeting about the vets being livid about the trade. I wonder if that was leaked to save face.

I think  they're happier about it both seeing the new players play and seeing Perk hit the contract jackpot in OKC.

I will always miss Perk and am grateful for what he did in Green, but I found it interesting that while watching NBATV a day or so after the trade he was actually considering OKC since last summer, if I heard his comments correctly.

This move was probably in the back of his mind all along - just not this soon, though.

The guess is that those consulted saw the logic in what Doc was asking, but still didn't want to see him go on the emotional level.

I can understand that.

May have also been tougher to see the big guy in convulsive tears knowing they'd had a small part in the move.

I'm sure Pierce was all for it lol.

As for "consulting" them, I'm sure it was more of a heads up so they weren't blindsided by it.

Doc and DA listened to their objections (if there were any), and convinced them otherwise.

Me too. Well put.

I think there should be rules within each organization thoughout the league. Whether teammates were consulted should be kept confidential. It puts players in awkward positions. Of course KG was consulted, now he looks like a trader to his friend and foolish after pretending to be shocked.

What exactly has Doc said? I don't buy this for a second. Maybe they were informed, not consulted, that a deal may happen without being feed the specifics, the players involved, but that's all.

Ya "livid" doesn't really jive with them being consulted.

So I wonder when they were consulted.  Everybody assumes it was right before the trade, but maybe it was a while back, like in the off-season.

(Sometime in July, August, September)
Ainge: Hey Kevin/Paul/Ray, you know Perk's a free agent after this year, and with him being injured right now, he migh not be able to play at all this season, and then we'll lose him in free agency, after all we just offered him an extension, the max we could offer him, and he turned it down.  So what would you think if I had the opportunity to trade him and bring back some talent?

Kevin/Paul/Ray: Ya I guess I'd be ok with that.

Ainge: Okay I'll let you know if we decide to do anything.

(sometime in mid February).
Ainge: Hey Kevin/Paul/Ray, what do you think about Krstic and Jeff Green from OKC?

Kevin/Paul/Ray: (thinking wow, Danny is gonna get either Green or Krstic for Nate) Ya their good players, I wouldn't mind having them on this team.  Go get 'em Danny.

(February 24).
Ainge: We just traded Perk for Green and Krstic.
Kevin/Paul/Ray: WHAT!?!?

Lol, ok maybe it didn't go down exactly like this.  But I always wonder the extent and timing of the players being consulted.  Did Danny really lay out what was going on, the exact specifics of the trade? Or does he just ask about possibly trading Perk (without mentioning who they're getting)? Or does he ask about the incoming players or a group of potential incoming players (without mentioning whose going out), like what do you think about this group of players: Battier, Anthony Parker, Corey Brewer, Josh Howard, Jeff Green, etc., who would you want most, who wouldn't you want?  With Trader Danny, and all the phone calls going back and forth, I'm sure it's hard to really consult the players on deals.  Something like the Melo deal, ya there's plenty of time, but something that seemed to come up at the last second I don't know.  Hey maybe they'll cover these things on the next Association episode.
