There was a topic on this about a week ago, but at the time there was competing speculation on whether the vets were consulted.  Today, Doc cleared that up, apparently:

Quote
Ben Rohrbach (brohrbach): On WEEI, Rivers admitted Celtics talked to 3 or 4 players before Perkins trade & "they all thought it was a good move" despite personal ties

The 4 players being, Shaq, JO, West, and Erden (who didn't understand the question).

not buying it, sorry.

No way these veteran players thought it was a good idea to dump salary to make the team better two years from now

My guess is they talked to the Big 3, 'cause they knew Rondo was too close to the situation.

well that's because it was not "dumping salary" it was getting 2-3 guys that can spread the floor and open things up for Rondo, Pierce, and Ray, and getting someone very talented to backup Pierce and Ray so that they don't burn out guarding Wade, Lebron, Melo, and Kobe. And on top of that, the starters know that they play very well with Shaq, KG admitted he loves playing with Shaq.

These guys want a title, and they know what is best for their chances to get it.

the big three for sure, I wonder if they skipped Rondo for that reason. They should know that he could get offended

What reason would Doc have to lie?

I believe it.  I wouldn't be surprised if the players, although they love Perk, were frustrated with Perk's lack of offense and felt they could get along without him, knowing who Danny was targeting in the trade, especially after playing so well without him.  Not surprised at all.

I believe it, too.  Doc knows that there are some chemistry issues right now, and the LAST thing he's going to do is lie about something his players did regarding such a personal issue.

I think Doc probably should have bit his tongue on this one, because he's basically saying that his players endorsed shipping one of their friends out of town.  Maybe that's something that they didn't want Perk to know.  Still, I have no reason to think he's lying.

Maybe less offended than if they asked him--and then ignored what he said.

yes, but Rondo is a smart guy, and the person that this trade helps the most is him, both now and in the future

Interesting. It would be better to know which players were specifically consulted though. You have to assume KG & cie were but I clearly remember KG saying recently he learned Perk got traded while driving to practice or shootaround the day of the deadline... so why would he be shocked if he knew it could happen?

I'd imagine he was shocked because even if they talked about trading Perkins in abstract, KG didn't imagine Ainge would actually do it.

Hmm so maybe PP,Ray,Shaq,Baby?

Well I can see it now

Doc:Avery, Semih, Luke. I know you guys are rookies but I you are important to this team so we want your input. We are thinking of trading perk to get Jeff Green. What do you guys think?

3 Rookies: Yeah sure coach.

Doc: Okay thanks for your input.

3 Rookies: No problem Coach, anytime.

Doc: Oh Btw, Luke and Semih, you can clear out your lockers now, you are going to Cleveland.
