Rarely has Peter May gushed about anything Celtic since 1986. He really thinks Ainge's moves constituted a "heist". I agree.

If we're healthy down the stretch run and playoffs (and win it all), then May is very well right.

Don't worry, this really is a record heist.  Even Peter may couldn't miss it and by the time the C's pick #11 in the draft 16 months from now, it will be clear to everyone.

Understand the trepidation. I used to get very mad at him when he would write so negatively about the Celtic players a few years ago, pre-KG trade.  Turns out he was pretty dead on, I just did not want to believe it.

He has a very strong point. Look at the pre-trade roster and the current one.

Pre-
Perkins/Shaq/Erden
KG/Big Baby/J.O.
Pierce/Daniels
Allen/Robinson/Wafer
Rondo/West/Bradley

Current-
Shaq/Krstic/Johnson
KG/Big Baby/Murphy/J.O.
Pierce/Green/Pavlovic
Allen/Wafer
Rondo/West/Bradley

We upgraded on every position except center and point guard which evens out well. I think Doc got more options and it will be exciting to see how this team does in the playoffs.

I see two upgrades from all of the moves, with the biggest being at small forward. The other upgrade is at power forward. I believe Center is weaker due to the lack of defense, and there is no change at Ray's and Rpndo's position, although I guess your point is that Nate being gone is an upgrade.

On paper, May is right. We shall see how that paper works in the playoffs and we shall see whether Shaq and JO can get healthy. Before the trade, I believed 100 percent that if healthy the Celtics will win the championship.

Now, having to integrate 4 new players into the system, plus Delonte, and seeing Doc speak publicly how difficult that is going to be, I am not so sure at all they can win it even if Shaw is healthy.

I still think it's unfair to say that the Celtics were most likely going to win the championship before the trade and now it's more unsure. Seriously, what if Perk doesn't come back full strength? If that's the case, then I believe we are in a MUCH better position. On paper, we have at least the same chance this year and more going forward. Perk will be missed, but not if he isn't the Perk of old.

We didn't address shooting guard, we are worse at Center, and we are worse at point guard.

Any disagreements with that assessment?

I'd take Green sometimes playing at the two ahead of Nate.  We're definitely strengthened at the 3 and the 4, and a healthy Krstic and Murphy are at least as good as the injured Perk/injured Semih combination, IMO, in this system.

Oh, also, the addition of Green allows Doc to play Pierce some at the 2 behind Ray.  Another relative luxury.

Yes, because Green being a true SF allows for Pierce to spends some time at SG, Wafer to play SG exclusively (if at all), and West to play more PG.

Adding a wing of Green's quality is an upgrade because it moves our previous options down in minutes and back to their more natural positions.

We are worse at C if Jermaine/Shaq are unable to contribute. If they are I actually think we're better due to the increased depth and offensive options.

Does he really thing the Celtics are going to resign all these players?

I can see Green back with the one year tender.

I can see Kristic back if he goes Min salary route.

Murphy?  Not a chance unless he accepts a one year MLE contract.

I see the Celtics preserving the 2012 offseason cap flexibility.

Would you trade Krstic straight up today for Semih?  Of course not. For Perk?  Not sure I would, as blasphemous as that sounds. I think Krystic will contribute more to starting 5 than Perk, at least the current sore kneed Perk.
