What's going on with BBD's jumper is this:  He's never been a good jump shooter.  He shot 42% for jumpshots last year, and is at 38% this year.  I think the 4% dropoff is due to the fact that he's shooting slightly farther away.

The reality is that we shouldn't worry about his jumper b/c he should hardly be taking them.. but that's not the case.  He's been much better near the hoop this year, and I hope he sticks there.

When we had the young lineup on the floor, they deferred to him a lot.  He had to take some jumpers late in the shot clock out of his range.

His form hasn't changed at all.  So it's not mechanical.

I never really had faith in his jumper anyway. The beginning of the season he was overachieving from outside, and it was gonna catch up with him eventually.

Like I did with Scal/Harangody/etc, I kinda expect his jumpers to clank, and sometimes (not often) I am pleasantly surprised.

Now that Perk is gone, Big Baby is the official black hole of the Boston Celtics. Never saw a pass he liked. I love his hustle, but talk about guys who think they are a lot better than they really are.

Teams are deciding that he can hit it so they are actually defending against it.

Im going to look for more of the 2nd unit offense to run through Green now and hopefully BBD can look for his "comfort" shots again and start building confidence. 20 footers is out of his comfort zone. Shooting off the dribble is waaay out of his comfort zone.

I would have some confidence in this if he didn't do the same thing with our starters too.

Good point. Basically, whenever BBD is on the floor, I dont want to see any offense run through him. I will be looking for an adjustment from Doc.

Well I've been waiting since last year for it to happen, and it hasn't. Maybe some competition for the PF spot might force the change.

It is mechanical --he is rushing his shot and not getting the same lift as earlier in the year, and he has always had a very definable range.  Watch carefully his release, the height on his jump and how far out he is.

Rondo is easy to tell from the amount of arc too little it's a miss decent arc and he shoots much better.

Please point me to numbers that say he has been a "good" jumpshooter at some point in his career.  We all consider Rondo a poor jumpshooter, and rightfully so b/c he's below 45% typically (and they are wide open, like Davis' shots).

As soon as someone can do this then I'll be open to going along with the idea that a) defensives defend his jumpshot better, or b) his mechanics are rushed.

I think you'll find that he's just not a good jump shooter.

Having watched every game this year--and considering that most everyone else in this post has noticed a drop off in BBD's shooting and as a result decided to discuss that drop off here---it is of little consequence to me that your opinion is that Davis is "just not a good jump shooter".  The point was not is he a good jump shooter the point is why is he a poorer jump shooter now than he was at the beginning of the season!

I agree with this.

I think a big part of it is mechanical.  It seems to me that his shot has shown less arc that before and that could very well be an effect of rushing his shot.  It just doesnt look terribly smooth right now.   He seems to be gunning it a bit.

It's pretty simple, actually.  He's shooting at roughly the same rate (45% overall this year vs. 44% last year), but he's already played roughly twice as many minutes and taken about twice as many shots as all of last year.  So we've seen twice as many misses overall.   Of course, he's also averaging roughly twice as many points per game (11.6 this year vs. 6.3 last year).  Sounds like it's the same as it ever was, but Doc is using him more because the big man rotation is so thin with injuries.
Good food, like good music and good love, always requires a little sweat in the making in order for it to be truly memorable.

39% for the Month of February. Let's see if the trend continues.
