Last season it really seemed like BBD had gotten some confidence in his outside shot and was going to start knocking that shot down with consistency. For some reason after a decent start to the year, the guy can't buy a bucket. I commented a few months back that he was starting to take the shot 2-3 feet out farther than was really his range when he started missing things. Maybe that is still what is going on. He is now starting to really hurt us out there not being able to score the ball outside. Sadly I am starting to wonder if last year wasn't just an farce and he really can't shoot the ball. If that is true then he is going to lose a lot of minutes to Murphy if he signs, and Jermaine when he gets healthy. I was actually starting to see the value in the guy, but it seems we are back to square one. An undersized PF/C who is a poor rebounder, can't score in the low block consistently, can't shoot the ball, but hustles as hard as anyone. That's not enough to get minutes though IMO. Come on BBD! Get in the gym with Ray and get the groove back, and step in a few feet.

I've noticed this too. Wasn't he shooting lights out at the beginning of the season? I feel like ever since he filled in as a starter for KG his jumpshooting has gone down hill. He has been fairly solid other than this though especially in big games and clutch minutes

He takes them from outside his range. Pretty simple.

Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

Teams are doing a much better job of forcing him to catch it farther from the hoop.

I watched the clippers game and it was refreshing to hear walton.  He really pointed out bad shots taken by davis among other things.  He loves the celtics but tells it almost as bluntly as cousy used to
Davis needs to shoot within his range and take his offense as it comes within the team game.  He is a important part of the 2nd unit for shooting jumpers.  But when you have lost your dribble and guarded by a taller player PLEASE don't shoot a fall away off balance jump shot.  I can see making it a point to resign Green as he should offer more for next season.

Don't think he's ever been a very "good" shooter. Rather, he seems to be adequate enough at shooting that he can take wide open jumpers and make enough of them that he has value as a bench player.

Maybe he's gained false confidence and is starting to take them further out, or off the dribble, or slightly contested instead of the usual ~.45% on wide open off the catch elbow jumpers?

What I want to know is where his ball movement has gone. As for his shot, he's taking them from too far away.

Hes going through a slump, luckily he has other abilities he can use in the meantime, unlike Nate Robinson.

I think a lot of it has to do with confidence at this point. He does not seem confident at all when he lines up to take a jumper. I think it's more that than people pushing him out of his range, or guarding him more. He has clanked so many open jumpers as well. And let's be honest it's not like teams have really changed their defense because of Big Baby.

I think it just needs to get that confidence back. It reminds me of Nate a bit and as one poster already mentioned he does bring other things to the table. Also I think generally most of his shots as of late have come in the flow of the offense and not him just jacking shots up

He's actually shooting better from every spot on the floor. His shooting, de per se, has improved. The problem is the shot-selection.

He's taking less shots at the rim and below the ft line and more shots 15ft-to-20ft away from the basket. His efficiency in those shots is well below 40%.

Yea i noticed a few in the clips game where he should've given it up, but instead chucks it.  He's really gotta learn his limits.

He's been hitting the 12-15 footer consistently since 08.  Last year he didn't go further than that from the basket because Sheed was always looking for the 3.  This year he hit a lot of 18-20 footers in the pre-season so he decided to continue taking them once the games started counting.  The rest is history, although he's still a good shooter in his range (probably no more than 16 feet).
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

No, it isn't us blogger's fault that BBD stinks at jumpers.  Most of the shots are wide open too, and I think teams are giving them to him b/c he shoots @ 38%, while the Celtics are a 50% shooting team.  This is why I am a big advocate of getting Murphy in here if possible b/c those same shots should be completed @ Troy's 52% jumpshot (2010 season).  That's a huge net gain!

Davis needs to keep rotating the ball, only take jumpers within 15 feet, set picks, hustle, etc.  That's his style, and it works when he stays within it.  I like him when he focuses on those things, but it angers me when I see him nearly leading the team in shots taken night in and night out. grr.

What low post play?  He relied on that last year and it resulted in him getting some embarrassing number like 25% of his shots blocked (pretty sure he had the most blocked attempts in the league by far).  He's improved on that this year but I believe he's also taking a much larger percentage of his shots away from the basket.
