You are the Celtics GM and you have three roster spots. Who do you sign and why?

My picks are:

Big Man: Murphy is the obvious pick

Here's why?
* You can never have enough big men come playoff time
* Murphy can spread the floor for Shaq and KG.
* He rebounds fairly well.
* He's Irish and should be in Boston  :)

Wing Player: Rasual Butler, or someone else who gets bought out

Here's why?
* Depth at the three / two, for Pierce and Ray
* We only have Wafer behind Ray right now

Point guard: Bibby/Ford -  but any decent vet will do

Here's  why?
* If Dwest goes down, it's Bradley or Pierce/Ray at point.
* Wafer is current back up OG if Ray goes down...
* DWest can become the primary back up off guard
* Gives you great Flex in the backcourt

You can now play Bibby or Ford at back up point, have Delonte instead of Wafer as first OG off the bench.

Or, you you can still play DWest at point, etc...

Bibby and DWest in the backcourt would be hard to defend, shooting wise for other teams, which would open up the middle.

What are your thoughts? What would you do?

1. Troy Murphy

To provide depth at the big man position and to prevent Miami from signing him. Great stretch forward with solid defensive rebounding but lack of defense and Big Baby superior chemistry with the team makes him the 5th big in my view.

2. Derrick Brown

Signed to a minimum contract for the next season and the remaining of this one. Because it'd be nice to have his rights for the future as I believe he's already a rotational player in the NBA. Very good defender and rebounder; if he adds a long range jump-shot, he can be a quality 6th man.

3. Garrett Temple

To provide depth at the PG position and to have his rights for the next Summer/season, as I believe he's a borderline rotation player and has potential to grow. Signed to an non-guaranteed contract for the next season.

Looking at our roster (When healthy)

Rondo/West/Bradley
Allen/Wafer
Pierce/Green
KG/Baby
Oneal/JO/Kristic

I see the biggest need for us is a back up PG and move West to the off guard spot. Bibby and Ford both bring different games to the table. Bibby is a shooter that gives a veteran locker room presence to the team. Ford is more of a drive and penetrate guy that plays better defense than Bibby. however, he seems that he could cause some troubles in the locker room and be a bit of a headcase. With that being said.

1. Bibby - Not afraid to shoot the ball, is a decent shooter from deep 2 range and behind the line. Can run an offensive system greatly without needing the ball in his hands all the time.

2. If Dalembert doesnt get bought out Murphy: Just to throw at the end of the bench in case of injury. Honestly I dont really like him or feel the need for him too much. But we have an open roster spot and can afford him.

3. If Hamilton doesnt get bought out Butler - because he adds and extra body to the team...

Basically I picked these three guys because they are pretty much the only ones I've heard that have been bought out. I doubt we get all three if we get any to begin with.

of the legit guys that are going to be bought out:

1. Murphy..legit big that can shoot

2. Kapono...big wing that could be a good shooter off the bench

3. Ford...but i am not sure he gets bought out...if not ford...i go with powe...

I'd sign whomever would make the Heat better.

Mike Bibby.  We need another backup guard with Delonte being injured so much this year.

Murphy.  Obviously we need more big man depth.

And the last spot is tough...

I'd go with Sheed...  But if not Powe.

Insert Brewer for Powe (Sheed... now).

In a realistic world... Brewer, Powe, and Murphy (I think it's a toss up between him going to the Heat and Celtics).
