Murphy has averaged a double double in every year where he's started and played 30 minutes (I'd have to look but it' at lest 6 or 7 seasons not just 1 or 2).  I don't think you can just chalk that up to lucky bounces that just land in his hands. 

Perkins barely broke 8 RPG in his best year.

Perk also has played with guys who are very good rebounders on the defensive end.  KG, Rondo, and Pierce all take away rebounds from Perk.  Just like Perk takes them away from those 3 guys.  We've always been a solid defensive rebounding team because all of our guys hit the glass.  With this being the philosophy, very rarely are you going to see a guy average over 10 boards a game.  Even KG who was averaging 12-13 a game with the t-wolves has only averaged 8-9 here.

I think JO will be playing behind Murphy to be honest! I think he's going to play alot more than you think if he is healthy. Don't forget he wasn't playing in NJ because Avery Johnson did not like Murphy even when he was able to play he didn't because of this!

I think that Murphy has to show that he's significantly better than JO to get his minutes. Remember, we have JO signed through next year also, might want to stay in a bit of good terms with him.

But we'll see. Myself I don't think anyone we sign at the moment is going to get significant time if any during the playoffs. I really hope someone can beat out BBD, but I don't know if Doc will let that happen regardless.

I think Doc will go with the big men that play the best defense ... and Murphy isn't on that list.

I think he'll be the fifth / sixth big in the depth chart.

It is all about the Oneals.   If both are healthy and providing what they are here to provide, Murphy will be the 5th big man. 



But then again, Doc does love shooting.  I can see him stealing Baby's minutes since he has a larger range.

I agree but I want to reserve judgment until I see them play more. We have seen enough guys with shaky defensive reputations come in here and provide adequate (Nate), and sometimes great defense (Ray, Paul).

Who knows, on this team maybe these guys find their inner Perk and become tough defenders.

True. Irrelevant for Murphy though, as he rarely attacks the offensive board. Plays too far away from the rim. A career 7.6 ORB, which is below that of any of the current Celtics bigs, including Davis and Krstic (but not Jeff Green).

I want to believe that, but Doc has also shown in the past he will go with the better shooter over the better defenders/rebounders in the past.

We have been at the bottom of the rebounding list for the past few seasons so saying half our team is good rebounders holds no merit.  KG when fully healthy is a good rebounder.  He's been less than 100% more often than not the past 2 years.  Rondo is a good rebounder for a PG, but over the course of the entire game his contribution is minimal.  If our team is not good at rebounding you have to pin it on the bigs as being below average; Perk BBD KG (because of heatlh).

I think he'll play a lot of minutes in the playoffs for the Celtics.  Assuming JO is injured and unavailable, I see Murphy taking minutes primarily from Kristic, BBD, and a bit of Shaq's too.  I really like what he can bring to this team, and am confident that his defense will become serviceable by the time the post season starts.

I know we love our players, but I believe people are understimating how valuable a guy like Murphy can be on the court.. especially on a team like the Celtics which has great spacing & passing.

I think he'll play a lot more than you think. Our defense has been fine, it's our offense that loses us games. Our horrific scoring droughts via bricks and turnovers is what hurts us. Guys who can rebound and score via anything other than a point-blank dunk would do us wonders. That's why we are trying to pick-up bigs with range and scoring ability..

Warriors, Pacers, and Nets. Those are the only teams Murphy has played for since being drafted in 2001. All lottery teams.
