The way I see it, until the other shoe drops – we have traded our starting Center for a backup wing.
There's nothing wrong with that. You have to measure if what the improvement on the wing brings to the team is larger than what is lost with the lesser center rotation.

Perkins + Shaq + O'Neal + Baby + Erden
vs.
Shaq + O'Neal + Baby + Garnett + Krstic
I think that if the O'Neals can play, the current situation is an improvement relatively to the status-quo ante.
Basically, Perkins presence offered diminishing returns and there was a glaring hole in the wing rotation plus the absence of a small-ball line-up.
I don't think there's really another shoe to drop. Even if Murphy joins, I think the only way it matters is if there are injuries.
