I agree he is the young legs to carry the torch.  But Bias was argubably a better player than Jordan.  Len Bias he isn't but I think he could grow into a Reggie Lewis type which isn't bad.

Yeah, but I'm all in favour of letting Bias walk away if it means stealing Hakeem from Houston.

I don't think Green will be as good as Bias would've; however, it is true, Green could really make them more effective.

Also, as others have said, while we can talk all we want about sabermetrics and how he played at the 3 and 4 while in OKC, the fact of the matter is that he won't be playing the 3 or the 4 in OKC anymore, he'll be doing it in Boston.  And as we've seen with guys like Shaq, when you play with a bunch of All Stars and Future Hall of Famers, you get a lot more open looks and can look a lot better.

I wouldn't sell him short yet.

I also wouldn't say that he's going to work out yet.

Time will tell.

From the thread comparing Jeff Green to posey:

much better player than Posey, imo.   I give it a month until some homer on this forum comments he's "Len Bias reincarnated".

I thought it would take a month... took a few hours.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
I distinctly remember that Len Bias was projected to be a "Dominick" like type of player. That he was better than Jordan is stretching it too far. Maybe while in college, maybe he was as good. I dont know. Jordan was drafted later than Bias was drafted, but history has Jordan as the best ever and I dont disagree with that. You had to see him to believe him. Ability wise - I would say Lebron is right there - he just isnt Jordan nor has his leadership nor charisma. Jordan was the Tiger Woods of basketball.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

All I would like to mention is that Len Bias was not just some guy you added to the Celts, the guy was by far, hands down, one of the best players in the 80s.  He would of dominated in the pros.

Some of you might not remember Len, I do he played for Maryland and was freaking beast and UNC had Jordan, Perkins, Worthy, Brad D..

Also Robert Parish was very productive, why the Celts would want to trade him is beyond me.

I find this heading somewhat blasphemous, Len Bias was the next Michael Jordan.  I like Green, but come on.

Len had more range in college than dominique or jordan.  Complete game, jordan was much better defender though.
Never know how guys are going to improve or fizzle out once they play college but much like jordan Bias would have thrived in a more open system.

True (and quite obvious) that MJ was a transcendent talent in the 80's (and champ in the 90's), he and Scottie never were confronted with Bias/Lewis in the big league.

If Green and VW can give this old team the energy boost that Shaw and Brown did for the old timers in '91, that'd be cool.  Reggie Lewis was a legit star that needed support (after the Brian Shaw fiasco).  If Green and Rondo are locked up, perhaps KG sticks around another year or two (doesn't he look like he has more than one year left in him?) and Pierce can fill the designated shooter role (since he can't get to the rim anyway), and the team marches on.

Comparisons to Bias, though...gosh...

Green is an athletic young wing whose ceiling is probably 20 ppg and 8 rebounds a game. He's absolutely not going to be a first option on a contender but would be a great 3rd. All he needs is coaching and while Scott Brooks is a very good coach, lets face it Rondo and Perk only started to grow when put into a rotation with KG Pierce and Allen. The oldest veteran Jeff Green had to learn from? Probably Kurt Thomas. He needs direction on how to play at the NBA level and become consistent. I think a few sessions at Camp Clifford Ray could help him in terms of his rebounding skills. The defensive system here is top notch, not a bad thing to learn how to play from 4 hall of famers and someone who could be on his way if he plays this way for another decade.

That is the opportunity this guy has here.  He can bridge the gap.  I don't think he's the player Lenny would have been, but he has a similar opportunity.

Agreed.

Jeff is also from Maryland too by the way. Just like Lenny and Reggie.
