Danny offered Perk $22M for 4 years in-season, the most he could under the CBA. It seems Perk wanted to wait till the offseason and sign for $30M over 4.

Would you have re-signed Perk at all? If so, for how much/how long. Personally, I thought Perk was asking for something like $45M/5 years, but I would have given him $28M/4 without hesitation.

I'm skeptical about the fact-checking on the 4 years, $30 million, but if Perk would have taken that, it's a no-brainer.

I would have given Perk $36 million over four years, assuming that the CBA stays somewhat similar to what it is now.

I would have given Perk between $30-35 million over four years.

More to the point, how much will somebody else be willing to pay him?  We won't really know til the offseason, but there's a good chance somebody with deep pockets would've gone further than the numbers that are being quoted here.  As we've seen from the reaction to the trade, Perk is very well-regarded around the league.

The issue with that though isnt that he isnt worth it, but Perk is a complementary player to a contending team and can put a contending team over the top.  But once you pay him that much money, assembling the rest of the team becomes extremely tough.

The comments in the media this morning notwithstanding, I thought the big issue was what the Cs could offer Perk given current salary rules...

8 or 9 million sounds about right given the market for big men.

I do think that such a contract might mean that we don't have a chance to rebuild around Rondo though.....

Argh, sometimes there aren't any good answers.

What's the point of this thread?  The C's offered the max they could to Perk under the current CBA, and he rejected it.  If we thought he was worth a max contract we couldn't have offered it to him.

I don't blame Perk, but he made his own path out of this organization.  It's a business.

I think we should have gone $32M to $35M, (for four years), at the max ... and I think Perk refused the first offer with the expectation that the C's would eventually better it. It's all moot, now, though.

Well he refused the first offer because it was below market, and the C's couldn't offer anymore until the offseason due to the CBA rules.

I can not see offering Perk more than $32m for 4 years. One thing that I am realizing is that without KG, Perk is not as valuable. If Perk would have signed for two years I would have given him $20m for 2 years. I just dont see him being as effective for us down the road. I am heartbroken over losing the Beast but IF...big IF Shaq can stay healthy and Kristic can give us some decent Ilguskas type play we can win 18. Plus we were gonna rebuild in 2 years anyways and as much as I love Perk I would rather go after a bigger name/asset than Perk.

Eh, he rejected a contract that would have been well below his market value. I don't think that's the same as "making your own path" out of town.

I know that ... I think Perk expected to be here in the off-season, and that the C's would improve their offer.

That's definitely the case, everyone expected him to still be here....
