This is a definite great deal.
One which the Big 3 will look back on glad it happened.
Pierce won't have to bust his nuts anymore.
If Pierce needs rest, he will get it !!!

- Green is only 24, an established scorer, and will
  benefit from the Celtics system. A potential starter
  in 3-4 years long term for the organization.
- Kristic is an upgrade over Perk offensively
- Kristic is an upgrade over Semih offensively
- Von Wafer fills Nate Robinson's shoes just fine

Shaq and JO, well we will see.. but Shaq is the starter
for the playoffs, that is absolute now.

There is nobody that can play Howard like Perk; but the Majic are not who we need to worry about. This is all about matching up with the Heat.

exactly, Orlando is not even a contender this year IMO . We still have shaq, BBD and possibly Rasheed Wallace who have all guarded Dwight very good over the years . I am not at all worried about Orlando.

Green gives us another guy to throw on Lebron and gives us a big scoring boost to our bench .

I still think we have plenty of size with , KG, BBD, Kristic, Shaq and Murphy or Rasheed. I would actually take Rasheed over Murphy because he already knows the defensive system and is a proven playoff performer.

Celtics offered him MLE money and he rejected the offer. That is all Miami can offer. OKC has cap room to offer a lot more. Otherwise they wouldn't have done this trade.

Also, Kendrick Perkins has probably become one of the most overrated bigs in the league. I mean we are talking about a guy who has averaged 6 points and 6 rebounds in his career, and these guys on NBA TV are talking about him having an impact like Melo.

Nah. He's a player whose stats don't do him justice. He cannot score other than garbage, but he is a pretty good rebounder and is excellent on defense in this system. He is big, smart, and strong in the post, which bodes well against Howard and Bynum.

Don't get me wrong he is an elite defender. But he is a weak rebounder for a guy his size and awful on the offensive end of the floor.

The way people in the media are reacting to this trade, like he is comparable to Melo, Deron, etc. is ridiculous.

I think Danny saw the writing on the wall.  I expect OKC (who will be about 17 mil under the cap) to give Perk 9-10 mill a year.  More than the Celts think he is worth I am sure. 

For OKC, he is a perfect fit.  They have plenty of offense with Durant and Westbrook.  Also,imagine how open durant will be after Perk sets his illegal screens. He brings the defense and post defense they need against the Spurs and Lakers.

As for Danny's thoughts, I think it came to this. Pierce defends Lebron as well as anyone in the league. But in a seven game series, no backup mean that the Celts don't have a chance.  We need the depth at SF more than center.  He's taking a gamble that one of the O'neals will be healthy.  Its a fair role of the dice i think.

True, but, right now, I file this under "Did I objectively bring in net "value" on this deal" rather than "does this move help us win the title this season."

Jeff Green is not a starting quality player.  He's a good combo forward to bring off the bench, to either speed up the game/stretch the floor as a 4 or D up and go big at the wing.

Somewhat in the mold of Marvin Williams.

What I don't get is why so many people choose to bring so much negativity into their lives when it is so unnecessary. There are people all over the comment sections talking about "I can't wait til Danny is fired," "The Celtics have zero chance at the title this year and next," "The Lakers have a guaranteed Championship now." wah wah wah

I mean aside from those statements being irrational at best, why do you choose to think that way? Why be upset when you don't have to be?

There are probably a lot of "celtic fans" at home right now, p---ed off, sulking, getting into unnecessary arguments with their wives, for absolutely no reason.

Was this a good trade for the Celtics? Maybe. Maybe not. We'll find out in time. Do we still have a chance to win the title? Absolutely, a good one. Should Danny have earned some little morsel of trust in the past 5 years? I think so.

Freeing up roster spots and filling them will buyout players is another positive because it could block those players from going to Miami or another team.
