I love Perk and appreciate everything he has given this organization, but IMO this was a fantastic deal that doesn't decrease the chance of # 18 this year and helps bridge to the future.

I think it's clear to say that the roster will now look like this.

PG: Rondo / West / Bradley
SG: Ray   / Wafer/ Bradley
SF: PP    / Green/ Ray
PF: KG    / BBD  / Green
 C: Shaq  / Kristic / Sheed ( I have to imagine) / BBD

1) The C's still have a ton of size, especially when they sign Sheed or another buyout. Yes they are older, but they have the ability to give 18+ fouls still and throw their weight around. With BBD, Shaq, Kristic and Sheed that is still more beef and size than probably any team in the league has at Center .

2) The C's won a championship in 08' with James Posey at the PF and KG at the center position for a majority of the games. Rondo, Ray, PP, KG and Posey was the go to lineup for that team . In crunch time , it was Posey that was in the game not Perkins.

The C's have been doing the same thing with BBD this year, and now have the ability to do it with Jeff Green, this trade makes them much more versatile and able to match up with any team and style .

3) THEY GOT A FIRST ROUND PICK FROM THE CLIPPERS. You can never go wrong owning one of the clippers 1st round picks .

4) It must have been made clear that Perk was going to demand a huge salary and Danny wasn't willing to pay. Sure Perk is a great defensive low post center, but he doesn't have much of an offensive game , isn't a great rebounder, isn't in the game at crunch time ( BBD usually is) and is coming off of a major knee injury .

5) If the C's can resign Jeff Green for around 10 mil a year the C's will be at around 40 mil on the cap for 2012. If the CBA doesn't drastically change the salary cap ( around 55-58 mil) , the C's would still be in position to offer a max contract to Dwight Howard .

A roster of ...

Rondo
pp
Jeff Green

could be very enticing to Howard . That would be a super athletic and defensive team with Rondo, Green and Howard running the floor.

I hated the trade when I first heard it , but this to me could be a steal of a trade, especially if LAC give us a lottery pick.

I like it for our future, but not as much for the present.  We were probably going to lose Perk so mine as well get him for something now.

Also hopefully this will entice Dwight in '12.

I think I heard that the Clippers pick is lottery-protected for a few years at least.

I keep hearing people say Green will get around $10 million per, but I've got to say I don't see it.  OKC fans were pretty sour on him before he left.  He can score a good bit and rebound some, but his scoring is largely on spot shooting and he's not all that efficient.  And his passing and D are not great, although that might change with the Celtics team culture around him.

Combined with the upcoming CBA, I think Green's not worth nearly 10 million.

I'm hoping Blake Griffin, Eric Gordan, DeAndre Jordan, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu can push them to that 11th pick next year!  ;D

at least, as opposed to perk, we can guarantee ourselves keeping Green for 1 year at 5.9 million. THis would allow the C's to get used to the new CBA, see if they can extend Green intelligently under the new CBA, as well as perhaps sign and trade. They have no obligation to extend him before the new CBA kicks in, as they control the QO year. Additionally, using the QO year would line Green up with Ray and KG in terms of expiring year.

Also, Kendrick Perkins has probably become one of the most overrated bigs in the league. I mean we are talking about a guy who has averaged 6 points and 6 rebounds in his career, and these guys on NBA TV are talking about him having an impact like Melo.

what really irritates me about this trade is that I can totally see Perkins signing with Miami in the offseason just to stick it to us.

The more I think about it, the more we got a steal.
I initially said Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.!

1. Green will make Pierce better.  He is mostly silent offensively when he covers Lebron.  Now he has help.
2. We gave up virtually nothing with Robinson.  If you squint you could even look at it as Green and Nenad for Perk--- and Robinson for a 1st round Clippers Pick.
3. This will free up roster spots for buy outs. Murphy and Rip.
4.  Don't get mad, but Perk was the beneficiary of playing with 4 all stars. His replacement will benefit as well.
5.  We wouldn't be able to resign Perk.

Nah. He's a player whose stats don't do him justice. He cannot score other than garbage, but he is a pretty good rebounder and is excellent on defense in this system. He is big, smart, and strong in the post, which bodes well against Howard and Bynum.

I'll be ready to be proven wrong, but I think this hurts us this year. I do think Perk was getting over rated, and getting ready to be overpaid, but I think that is why you just let him walk at the end of the year. We were right in the thick of it THIS YEAR. I know we were really good even while Perk sat out, but there is no way we can really bank on Shaq/JO in the playoffs, and Perk, though ready to be overrated and overpaid next year, is a very good rebounder and excellent defender NOW. (as an aside, quoting career numbers for a guy who came into the league from high school is meaningless; he's coming off 8.5/8.2 and 10.5/7.6 seasons).

My only solace is that when the C's have failed, it's because they hit these stretches where they lose low scoring games because their defense is there but they can't buy a bucket. Green and Krstic should help with that. Hopefully it helps enough to outweigh how we try to defend Dwight/Bynum/Pau.

There is nobody that can play Howard like Perk; but the Majic are not who we need to worry about. This is all about matching up with the Heat.
