How? Explain. We have no cap space for the foreseeable future.

Sign and trade? With what assets? Green and Rondo?

Ha, I mentioned this in the trade thread almost to the second of when you made this

We still don't know how everything shakes out this year and next, but this sure seems to be one more indication that Danny's putting a lot of his eggs in the D12 basket, doesn't it?

I agree, it seems like Danny

 - had an idea what Perk was asking for and wasn't going to pay it
 - and is pushing hard to position us to pick up Howard after next year.

Well, you can't question his courage, that's for sure.  He's gonna catch a lot of heat for this.

Don't we have a ton of money coming off the cap after 11-12?  KG, Ray, JO, Shaq probably a couple others I'm missing.

EDIT:  Looking online, we only have Rondo, Pierce, and Bradley (on a team option) for 12-13.  Krstic is a FA and Green a RFA after this year.

Jeff Green is going to command a sizable contract this offseason.

That is going to eat into the C's 2012 cap space.

After next season the C's will have Rondo/Pierce and cap room. That's the season the Dwight would be a FA if he opts out.

Yeah, which is why I'm skeptical that DA is going to go for Howard. Who knows he might let Green walk if the deal is too big.

Ah, I was thinking of next season.

If cap space is the issue, then I guess this is a 1-yr rental of Green, and Davis is probably gone next season.

That is going to eat into the C's 2012 cap space.

The question then becomes how big of a contract that is going to be. My first though is 10-13 million. Probably along the lines of what Perk was going to command anyways.

So why trade Perk mid-season if we're gonna end up losing out on both players in the off-season? Why not keep Perk for the run, then worry about it later?

I really, really don't get this.

This trade changes nothing for our capspace for 2012. I don't see how this is connected at all.

The goal was to win a championship this year and next year as part of DA's 2 year plan...and we had a very very strong chance to win it this year. Planning to get D12 2 years from now and ruining these 2 things would be absolutely stupid.

Which means, either there's something seriously wrong with Perk, or..DA knew he wouldn't re-sign and didn't want to let him walk in free agency? And with the likelihood of a lockout next year it makes it that much tougher to not do a sign and trade or something? I just don't get it..it's clear he's got something up his sleeve, I just hope it's something to help improve our chances on winning the championship THIS year and next.

This is the last season of the NBA as we know it. With all the trades that are happening today, we are getting a glimpse of the future and it is looking pretty dark. Trading out Perkins is just the first brick that is being moved out (if this deal really is happening).
The beatings will continue until morale improves
