I think this is the best assessment I have seen of this trade so far.

I will miss Perk, but I am not ready to give up yet.

Sports Nation and ESPN commentators are pretty negative on the deal. We gave up a fair amount to get Nate. Now to trade him for Kristic is kind of lame. But those that say we are loosing our advantage in size by trading Perk seem to miss the fact that we have not been able to exploit that size with perk on the court.

I worry about D and Rebounds.  That was a great article.  ESPN and SN are Celtic haters and HEAT lovers.  Screw them, I bet Ainge has something up his sleeve yet.  I think we must wait until the other shoe drops.

I like getting a bit younger.  Green will be part of the rebuild when it happens I wager and he and Rondo are not a bad start.

what we will miss the most is defense, unless JO somehow comes back healthy enough to take over for Perk. Otherwise, we win in every other category.

This trade is about shutting down Lebron, plain and simple.  DA decided that, despite the fact that the Cs are 3-0 against the Miami "heatles" this year, that PP can't chase down Lebron all game cuz he basically disappears on the offensive end.

The problem with that logic is the Cs won all three games against the Heat because the Heat have no big men!  Bosh is a joke!!  Dampier and J. howard are beyond washed up and the same is true for Big Z.  So the Cs gave away their competitive advantage against the Heat to adjust down to a team whose number they already had.

And forget about beating the Fakers without Perk!  Odom, Gasol and Bynam will destroy us on the boards now.

Wow, what an interesting trade.  I don't like the deal, BUT I will say that it is a gamble that certainly could payoff.  I don't love Green, but he has upside and he is young.  It's very tough to predict how he will fit in here and how he will respond to the pressure of playing in an environment of championshipship expectation.  I haven't heard too many people talk about this aspect of the trade, but imo the most important factor is Green himself.  It's not a fait accompli that he plays well here, and it's not a fait accompli that he doesn't excel here, either.

Other factors, in order:

1.  Does Murphy sign here?  He can rebound, shoot, and score, but he can't defend.  I don't love Murphy but we need his rebounding desperately.  In certain matchups vs. certain teams, he could really help us.
2.  Jermaine O'Neal.  I may be in the minority, but I like JOs game a lot.  If he can get back on the court and play in a limited role, he can defend, block shots, rebound, and score a little.  His health is a big if, though.
3. Sheed.  Is he in shape?  Do the Celtics even want him?  Does Sheed even want to come back?  IF he is in shape, he could help.

edit: I forgot to mention Kristic because the guy pretty much sucks.  If he is going to play like 5-10 minutes a game (or less), fine...he is a good offensive player.  Other than that, he is a stiff.  I hope they don't play him much.

Maybe the last part of the deal is a one-time use of a time machine? We could throw Jermaine in there and bring him back to 2004 form?

The trade makes more sense that way than it does now.

These trade absolutely sucks so far. Perkins by himself is worth Green, Kristic, and A Clippers unprotected pick. Especially considering how much OKC needed a legit center. I don't see why we couldn't at the very least squeeze more out of them. The Semih and Harangody for Clevelands second rounder doesn't make sense since we need some healthy bodies at the 5. If it wasn't for losing Perk it would be a fair deal considering the 2nd rounder will almost definitely be the first pick of the second round. Trading Daniels for cash is fine with me since it seems he's going to be done for the season. I'm going to assume Danny knows a lot more than we do because right now these moves combined look stupid.

What in God's Name is Ainge doing ????????????????????

i just heard about this trade. this is awful - just awful. i'm sick over this. Perk is a Celtic. and he also happens to be our starting center......... and he is also a big, big part of the best team chemistry in the league.

what are the rest of the guys gonna think - how much loyalty do they feel now. Perk loved the Celtics and he loved being part of this team. he worked so hard to come back early and was playing great - highest rebound average of his career - andn Semih at least played hard and was available to back up Perk while the Oneals' soak in the whirlpool.

meanwhile, we are left with two carcasses at center, both of whom have been hurt more than they have played this season - all because Danny pulls this hair-brained scheme.

why is Ainge worried about making a move for the future ?? the time is now !!!! this is the same stupid thinking that caused him to lose James Posey, who he's been trying to replace since he foolishly let him get away after the '08 title in the name of protecting our rebuilding efforts three years away. Danny, we are now three years away and we are (were) the best team in the league and Posey would still be one of the key parts of this team. he also would probably have allowed us to win the finals last year.

Not sure i've been this upset since things went bad after the '86 title. just sick.

that team chemistry looked very good if not better when Shaq was healthy and starting in his place.

LOL, thanks for the laugh. In what universe does a UFA Defensive center command that much?

BTW, I like everything I've read in the media so far about the things that Nate Robinson is saying.  He's handling it like a real professional.  I know he wasn't the most liked around here, but I wish him all the best.
Celtics fan for life.

I don't think the trade is as bad as people make it out to be. Just the image of seeing Perk wearing another basketball jersey sucks. He was a true Celtic. dang, I'ma miss him.  :'(

Not so mad about the trade.. just mad because it had to be PERK! if that makes sense.

On paper, you can justify this trade but chemistry wise it's a huge gamble.

nate robinson on Perk's reaction today:

“He’s taking it pretty hard because he’s been here eight years,” Robinson just said while checking out of the team hotel in Denver. “He was very emotional, crying. He has to move his family, and he’s been really tight with Rondo and other guys on the team. "

that comment breaks my heart - what will become of this team's will and chemistry, which i have considered to be their greatest strength. i saw these Celtics as the hungriest team in the league this year, feeding together off the pain of the game 7 loss. and i know very well that given similar levels of talent that hunger and a desire & will to win usually determines the who takes a playoff series. i would go so far as to say that this group of Celtics was desperate to avenge last year - they need this title more than anybody else in the league .............. that is a huge advantage. Danny might have just gutted that cumulative desire because i think Perk hurt more than anybody because he had to miss the last game.

danny ainge on supposedly a key reason for the trade being the inability to resign perk:

“We offered (Perk) all that we could offer him and he wasn’t interested in doing a contract extension. That was a concern."

can anyone up there shed some light on this for me - this is the first i've heard about Perk showing little interest in an extension. i'm sure he wanted to stay in boston, but sounds like he was gonna see what he was worth out there first .............. or is Ainge just blowing smoke ?
