My knee-jerk reaction when I read this at work about an hour ago was that this was a bad idea.  With the uncertainty of the health of both O'Neals, trading our starting center didn't exactly seem like a good idea.

However, after about an hour of mulling it over, I'm feel significantly better.

First off, it has become clear that Doc views his most dangerous lineup to be a lineup where a scorer is inserted for Perk.  He's consistently closed games with Baby all year.  With Green here, I'd expect to see quite a bit of time with him playing with the starters.  When you consider that fact that Baby and Green will both likely see time with the starters, we're already covering quite a bit of our "center" minutes already.  Thus, even in an imperfect world where Krstic is our only other big, if he can play 20 mpg, I don't see why Green and Baby can't cover all the rest of the backup minutes at the 3, 4, and 5 most nights.

Second, I don't think it will come to that.  Quite frankly, if Danny wasn't absolutely certain that he was going to pick up at least one other big on the FA market, there's no way he wouldn've given away Harangody and Erden to for a 2nd round pick.

Finally, if things work out, this team has the potential to be very dangerous as we could rock a playoff rotation primarily focused on our starting 4 + Shaq with a bench of Baby, Green, and West playing most of the backup minutes.  Sure, we'll need another center, but Krstic, Jermaine, or a FA pickup should be able to handle most of that.  Remember, with Green here, if Doc wants, he can use Baby a lot more at the 5 spot.

I also like where this is going for the future.  Jeff Green is a good player.  Not good enough to be Rondo's sidekick, but potentially good enough to be a 3 or 4 guy on a title team.  Even better, he likely won't get enough PT here over the next year and half to command big money on the free agent market.  Thus, we may get him for a reduced rate and then be able to to watch him blow up when Ray and KG depart.

If Shaq and JO are reasonably healthy for the playoffs and Murphy actually winds up in Green, Perk will not be missed at all.  Boston was also going to have to give a huge contract to keep him after this year.  Do you really think Perk is worth a 5 or 6 year deal with 65 to 75 million dollars?

I am intrigued as Green as a 6th man 3/4 ala Posey.

I like it Mike.  Sorry, I went off the air for a few hours with the kids and came back to Perk being traded .. I know Danny's crazy like a fox but that caught me off-guard!

Along with a lot of people here I guess Perk's just one of those that it's very hard to part with .. performance, injuries or whatever .. he's, well, Perk.

Seeing the reactions here and on the thread at the front page, is like seeing someone light up a candle and you go around shouting 'fire fire big fire!' around your neighborhood.

Perk will surely be missed but come on now. Danny has something up in the works that will enable this team to compete for the title and put pieces for the future at the same time or not one of this deals would've gone down except maybe clearing roster spots.

3 ROSTERS SPOTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE, there's still a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Do the Cs finally have that young, backup "power 3" in Jeff Green?  That's a pretty solid backup for Pierce.

I like this deal somewhat. Now I am a fan of Nate Robinson and have been since he was drafted but I do like him going to OKC... I think that team and the style they play is better for him... not as play heavy and are up tempo team. I like that we got Jeff Green because he is a good player and could be a great back up for Pierce... I do believe that Ainge did draft him then we sent him to OKC for Ray Allen.

I'm not a fan of having to give up Perk and get Krstic to make this deal work. Perk was a great defender and didn't require much attention offensively. Krstic is a 14-15 bench guy I think and I basically hate his game... he's a tall guy who can't rebound. So why???

Good for Nate and I hope he does well with the OKC... it sucks that he went there and has to deal with the fact that they aren't the Seattle Sonics anymore (he's from Seattle, hates that they became the Thunder) but good luck to him and good luck to Perk. Sucks Perk had to go.

At what cost?

Seems like those guys are available yearly at the MLE if you wanna pad the years.

It's really too soon to tell if this puts a real damper on our title chances.

If we get Shaq and JO back, coupled with a buyout player and Kristic, that's still a great deal of size.

I don't think we got enouigh of a return.

its also a huge bow to our dreams of hanging banner 18.

Hopefully there is something I'm not seeing and Danny  has a plan.

We didn't get enough in return? Maybe we traded the better fit for our team in Perkins, but we most certainly got the best player in the deal along with a nice little 1st round pick.

There are other things to complain about in this deal. Getting enough in return is not one of them.

chemistry issues I think are as big a gamble as Shaq and JO's health with this deal. It can work out great for us if all goes well, we did get a lot in return, but it could blow up in our face this year too.
