You also can't really teach grace and coordination, though, and I'm not convinced those are things Hasheem will ever have.  Semih is more skilled and coordinated than Hasheem is.  I'd rather have Semih on my team than Thabeet.  All Thabeet can do at an NBA level is block, and he gets a ton of fouls.
I wouldn't say Dikembe was either graceful or that coordinated but he did very well in the league.

I don't think I'd call him uncoordinated. It takes athleticism and timing to get all those blocks.

Not the same kind of hand-eye coordination required to dribble / lay-in / shoot a basketball, or the full-body coordination required to perform even simple post moves, etc.

Also, given Hasheem's utter lack of basketball experience relative to his peers (he's only been playing for a few years), it's hard to envision him developing into a smart player any time soon.  There's something you just can't get back as a player trying to start playing a sport in late teens / early 20's versus players who have been playing a sport their entire lives.

He wasn't a great offensive player, but he wasn't awful either.

  Edit: ok, fairly bad.

Dikembe was at least a decent offensive player; you can't be a really bad offensive player and score more than 15 points per game.  He at least knew how to use his body in order to secure rebounds and get put backs effectively, which is more than can be said for Hasheem.

You can teach footwork, which can make a big difference in the post on offense.
