Maybe I'm in the minority. But assuming he was available I think I woulda pulled the trigger on a Rondo,Williams straight across deal. D-Will is also a good defender aside from being a 21pt. 9ast. Guy.

I like Deron Williams a lot but he is no Rondo IMO. Rondo plays much better defense and he is a much better leader and from what I hear person. It has been reported that D Will caused many headaches for Sloan. I wouldn't have rocked the boat mid-season if it was rondo for CP3.

Yes.  It's unknown if Rondo can carry a team not loaded with HOF'ers and my gut feeling is that he cannot.  Deron has proven that he can single-handedly carry a team into the playoffs.

The ONLY reason to think about it would be considering the contracts.  But to win in the NBA, you need to shell out $$ and be over the cap, so it doesn't really matter too much.

I raised this question after Sloan left. The response seemed to be, 1) he wouldn't be traded this year (whoops), and 2) only with an extension commitment from D-Will.

There's a strong argument that Williams would not only make the Cs better, but would be more likely to attract a top FA to the Cs in 2012 (read: Howard). Much as I love Rondo, i believe both are true. I'd agree tho that the risk might be too much without that extension, considering Rondo's strong contract / value considering his game.

Not I.  While D. Williams is an excellent ball player, Rondo is better and does more for the Celtics than Williams.

Plus Rondo does not seem to but heads with Hall of Fame coaches.

This is actually a tougher call than you might think.  Williams has far fewer offensive limitations than Rondo, but I have little confidence he could handle this Boston lineup.  I certainly don't think Williams would be happy being the 4th or 5th option on offense most nights.

If Deron Williams was on this roster he would be the 1st option, not the 4th or 5th  ::)

He is the PG so he would have the ball in his hand the majority of the time , with his offensive skills that makes him option #1 . You would see a lot more pick and roll/pop with KG and Deron Williams.

He'd immediately be the top scorer on the team, with a better halfcourt game than Rondo at a comparable assist level. The Cs would be back to playing 5 on 5, and would essentially be impossible to guard.

He'd be the No 1 option on the  best team in basketball.

Yes, and all the Hall of Famers on this team with championship rings would happy playing 2nd and 3rd fiddle to a point guard who wants to shoot the ball all the time.  Yeah, there's no way there could be any problems with that.

Deron Williams:

2010-11: ~15 mil
2011-12: ~16.4 mil
2012-13: ~17.8 mil (player option)

Rondo:

2010-11: 9 mil
2011-12: 10 mil
2012-13: 11 mil
2013-14: 12 mil
2014-15: 13 mil

Too easy.  You can nitpick each player's offensive capabilities and leadership but in the end, it comes down to money and Rondo signed with us for 5 years for CHEAP.  That and his increasing leadership, you can pair him with a stud and you've got a promising core.

Pass.

I think RR meshes better b/c he ISN'T the first option. You have 1 ball, it's tough enough getting Shaq shots even when he goes 5/5 in the first Q and never sees the ball again. Who gets less shots with Deron? I think you guys underestimate RR... when he needs to he scores (playoffs last season), but he rarely needs to. The selflessness of RR is a big part of the teams success! RR is just what the team needs.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I think this year he was well on his way to showing he *can't* single-handedly carry a team into the playoffs.
