Quick question:

How long do players bought out of a contract stay on the teams cap number?

For example, if we traded JO to someone, and they bought him out, would he still count on the team's cap number?  Or does that cap hit (as well as the luxury tax bill) just go away following the buy out?

The salary cap hit is spread equally over the remaining years on a player's contract.

For instance, let's say that J.O. agrees to a buyout of $8 million, which includes salary he's already been paid to date.  For each of 2011 and 2012, he carries a cap hit of $4.0 million.
